I have the Bilsteins and am happy with them. I can't really say if they're the best since I haven't tried anything else. Lots of folks have used the Edelbrock AIS's as well as Rancho's and even some Monroes out there. Anything would be an improvement over those cheap OEM shocks. When I took the stock shocks off with only 5,000 miles on them....I couldn't believe how bad they were. Very easy to move in an out by hand. In other words....garbage.
Best of luck.
I'd rather have 4 Bilsteins in front than 2. Haven't had a chance to put my new front springs in yet, and 2 addl. shocks would be nice. I wouldn't consider Edelbrock, long story. I'd go with the Bilsteins. Dale

Not sure who is the cheapest now but places to check online are shox.com, eshoscks.com and autozone.
I bought some from Eshocks.com last year for my super duty and they were the cheapest at the time.

Did a lot of looking and research. Ended up with Edelbrock's new IAS shocks on all fours. After 20K now, I still love'em. Whatever you put in (Bilstein, Edelbrock, Rancho), you'll be amazed how crappy those generic black shocks are from Henry F's factory. Tiger from Winnie the Pooh has less bounce than those baies!
Good luck in your shopping.

Tell ya what, for the last year and 19,000 miles we've enjoyed the heck out of the Rancho 9000X's freeway cruising and towing alike.
We'd buy em again

The 9000's Rock!!! Stiff 'em up for towing or lighten 'em up for the highway and everything in between. I'm gonna put them on my light duty truck next. AND GET A HELLWIG REAR BAR! Night and DAY!!!! I recently put on Rancho 9000's, I don't know what I was thinking waiting 3 years and 62K miles. This is a different truck, I should have listened to you all long ago. If you tow anything the adjustment is perfect, you can 'tune' them to the load.
I called the local NAPA dealer asking about Bilsteins and he said there were no shocks available for my 2003 Excursion. The only things they saw in their catalog was for the 2001 and earlier.
Does anybody have any part or stock numbers for the Bilsteins or Rancho 9000s for a 2003 X???
