Ski racks to fit the X

I'm looking for a luggage rack mounted ski holder capable of holding at least two pairs of skis and two snow boards.
Anybody have experience with racks that fit the X? Height is not and issue, ease of use and quality are. Also will consider one of those closed storage bins but I'm leary about wind noise issues. Any info would be greatly appreciated as the slopes are waiting! Thanks all.

Re: Ski racks to fit the X

Try http://www.yakima.com They make a nice rack for the X. I've used it on smaller SUV's and had good luck. An added benefit is that they make a nice roof rack that can be bolted on top of the basic hardware. They also have some nice products that insert into the hitch.

Regards,
Dave

Re: Ski racks to fit the X

check out my pics in my sig and look at my box. there is no wind noise that I can hear and all of your stuff can be in the box and nobody knows what is in there. could be empty or full. this is my second box on my second vehicle and obviously I do like the box! moisture control is needed, just wipe off the equip before placing into the box.

Re: Ski racks to fit the X

Thanks for the info. I ended up buying a Yakima box today. I didn't pick up the hardware hoping that I would mount it to the factory rack. HA! what a sad excuse for a rack. I guess I'll have to get the locking rack sliders and the cross bars from Yakima.

While looking at the top of the truck and that stupid factory rack, I couldn't believe they would engineer something so useless. I know the reason was to allow the thing to fit in a garage, I would have just left the rack off.

This may sound like an odd idea, but I've seen complaints elsewhere of roof scratching issues while moving the factory cross bars. Does anyone think that Rhino bed lining could be applied to the area between the longitudinal roof rails to protect the surface? Seems like it would work. Might help out guys that put stuff up there a lot.
