Skid Plates

Does anyone know if the skid plates from the 2003 SuperDuty's will bolt directly onto a 2003 Excursion's frame? I ordered a 2003 Excursion about three weeks ago and was disappointed to find there was no option for skid plates. If not, does anyone know of any aftermarket suppliers.

Re: Skid Plates

I believe they do, but you need to remove the cast iron "balls" from you Excursion. Not sure about the 2003's though. They offered skids on the 2000's I believe and then put these "balls" on to eliminate NVH and that made the skidplates not fit.

Not sure if I answered your question or not. I believe you have options, but you'll have to do some research and climb underneath.

Regards,
Dave

Re: Skid Plates

Dave,

Why do you need to remove the iron balls? Skid plate from our 00' company X slapped right on our 03'. Balls where mounted on transmission support crossmember.

Re: Skid Plates

I have to claim ignorance . .I was told the "Balls" were the reason you couldn't get skid plates . .. I'm gonna blame it on the 2 Corona's which have given me about twice the normal buzz . .maybe I should've eaten lunch today

Have a good one,
Dave

Re: Skid Plates

Eat lunch and ruin a quick buzz, No way! , Back when I was a driller and lived out of a suitcase that was S.O.P. I did note that the balls are bolted on our 03', but if I remember right, they were held in place on our 01' with an industrial plastic wire tie. Never knew they had any value, I always thought they were railcar tie downs. So they need to be left on?

Re: Skid Plates

Do not worry. Be happy. When my Excursion was built, the transfer skid plate was ordered but was deleted by the factory. Not available after a certain date. Ordered my transer skid plate from the dealer. Used part numbers from a F250 and it bolted right up. The iron balls were not in the way. I even got the factory hardware. I have no idea why the transfer skid plate was deleted as an option.

Re: Skid Plates

Wow, you know I'd like to know those part numbers and cost if you have it handy. I do go off road in some pretty rocky areas and would like the extra protection.

Re: Skid Plates

That is exactly what my factory installed skid plates look like.

The vibration dampening weights are on the transmission mount crossmember.
