I came upon a 2500HD Suburban at my favorite fuel stop. Nice looking truck ... from the back, anyways. He was rudely taking up not only the "gas" pump, but was blocking the Diesel as well. Not a huge problem. The diesel pump has a 20 ft hose on it.
He bought about 70 litres (must not have been that empty ... I'm sure his tank is larger than that) and I bought about 120. He was there before me, but the large nossle diesel pump filled my rig first.
I don't know much about GMC trucks, but it sounded like he had an exhaust job. Was easily noisier than my clatter when he fired up and took off.
About ten minutes later, I pulled up beside him at the stoplight. No brake burn... I just tromped on it... and so did he. His nose edged out off the line before mine. His front tire was ahead of my bumper, then by about 15 mph, I pulled even. By 60 mph, when I cut the fuel, his front bumper was even with my back tire and slipping. I'd made my point
It was only a 60 kph zone (60 mph is 100 kph) ... but industrial. Still, I'm not going to go beyond proving my point. He passed by, but backed way off quite quickly. He had a second and third look at my rig as I overtook him again. I think he wanted to get another look at my rig.
My better half, in the right-hand seat complained that I just wasted a fair bit of the Diesel I had just bought. "Worth every penny," I said ... "I love my truck!"
"I love my truck!" is my own personal tagline for such situations.

Pretty impressive if it was the 8.1. Not a big deal if it was the 6.0. They look the same except for the rear axle (or popping the hood). Burbs are just burbs. 1500 or 2500. No HD.
A lot would depend on the rear axle ratio of the burb, which the badging would never show.
The 6.0 burb performs better at higher rpms, meaning the 4.10 axle (which is not standard) might "smoke" a diesel.
But if you do pull ahead of the next burb you meet at a stoplight, you can use your rearview mirror to distinguish the 8.1 from the 6.0 while viewing the front of the burb, as the 8.1 will have two holes in the bumper, and the 6.0 will have a smooth front bumper with no holes.

I hadn't noticed the front bumper differences, I'd always looked at the rear axle.
I've found the 8.1 burbs to be a lot quicker than the 6.0, even though the 6.0 pulls harder higher in the RPM band.
My Brother has 2500 CC 6oh & Dad has 8.1 Avalanche. My 7.3 with the Super chips wastes both of them. The 8.1 is only a little faster than the 6. The 6 has 4.10 gears too.
They drool over the towing power & shake their heads. When towing the Car Hauler, they just can't get over the Torque.

Why didn't they buy diesels?
Curious, how would the 7.3 do against them without the chip?
I'm hesitant to chip or otherwise mod mine before the 100k engine warranty expires and/or I can afford to have a tranny built for it.

Probably because Suburbans and Avalanches can't be had with a diesel. Only their pickup line.
As for chipping, unless you get extremely crazy, you needn't worry, or wait that long.
I run a TTS race chip in mine (80hp/100tq), and have been since the truck was just a few months old. It has suffered NO ill effects, and I even tow with it.
There are even a few rare dealerships that sell programmers and don't care where you are in your warranty. A chip is easilly detectable, so if you're worried about that, then get a programmer. The PCM can be easilly deprogrammed if you need to take the truck in.

My dad doesn't like Diesel's. He's old school, they are slow, stinky & noisy. My rigs have changed his thinking somewhat. My mother complains about the exhaust smell everytime she can & acts like it's giving her a headache. The *****ing alone will likely keep my Dad from buying.
My brother will likely buy a Dmax and mod till he's faster than me.
My trucks stock will out pull their's BIGTIME when loaded! Unloaded they both leave me in the dust, again stock.
Chipped and they don't have a prayer no matter what.

That seems more typical. Don't get me wrong, I believe in the 7.3, but "smoking" a rounded, smaller, lighter, gasoline powered 2500HD is not typical... without some other factor involved like rear end ratios, driver input, or chip.

Last year I was in PA towing my 31ft travel trailer. We pulled up next to a nice looking K2500 Suburban with 8.1 (not sure what gears) towing a similar sized trailer. We hit two red lights in a row and we both gave it our best. From a standstill, the Sub would get a half truck's jump on me. Within seconds my X would pass him by....within a fairly short distance I had a full rigs lead....twice in a row. After the second light he pulled next to me and asked if I had a Powerstroke....the two of us laughed at each other and gave the official thumbs up for two good races. You should have seen my wifes face, it was priceless...two grown men dragging their trucks while towing with their families on board.
