SP Diesel Exhaust Brake??? Anyone have one??

I was wondering if anyone is currently using SP Diesel's Exhaust brake which works off the gate on the TURBO? If so, have you had any mechanical problems since the installation of the unit? I have a 6500 lb trailer I tow and I was thinking on getting this item to mabye save my brake jobs down the road. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: SP Diesel Exhaust Brake??? Anyone have one??

I am using th EBPV on my 96' for an exhaust brake and it works great. I have been using it every day for about the last 4 or 5 years and no problems at all. If you decide to do it you might do a search for a DIY exhaust brake rather than buying one you would save some money.

Re: SP Diesel Exhaust Brake??? Anyone have one??

I'm not using the SP, but a similiar one that also uses the EBV and it works fine. The only thing I can see where a more expensive brake might be better is that it would probably give a bit more retardation. I'm towing 9500lbs when I tow, and it does a nice job of holding my speed down. It won't significantly decellerate that big of a load, but it keeps me from going faster! If it's a very long grade, I have to use my brakes occasionally, but not enough that I worry about overheating them.

Regards,
Dave

Re: SP Diesel Exhaust Brake??? Anyone have one??

In my past experiences, i have found the turbo brakes do not brake enough to make the worth it... TO ME... It was almost like not having anything at all...

If was was to do it all again (Have a tourqueshift now so i dont have to) I would go for a more expencive jake style REAL exhaust brake.

Did you have your TC locked up? Mine will set the truck right on it's nose with a manual tranny. I have to be carful with it in the winter on slick roads it will lock the tires up.
