Spare Tire and Cover Sizes

Can anyone tell me what size tires, other than stock, can be fitted into the spare tire area? Does anyone make a cover for the larger sizes if they do fit.
If nothing else but stock fits, there must be a lot of peole out there in Excursions with larger tires running around with no spare.

I am one of those running around with no spare. The cover is in the back in a heap. I have not ordered a spare because I doubt the cover will fit. I notice there is a removable plastic insert marked Remove For larger size which suggests a bright light at Ford contemplated that a customer would use a larger tire than stock but no one seems to have made provisions for the cover. I think the tire might fit in the slot but the cover won't fit so you will have an bare tire in the back.

I guess there is an oppotunity for after market suppliers. Does anyone know if there are generic spare tire covers available?

who cares about the cover??? I mean, it's nice & all, but if my choice was no spare, or a spare without a cover, that's not really a choice---I'd rather pass on the cosmetics, and go for the spare!!!!
