speedo not working ?'s

Hi,
I have a 2000 Excursion that has a non functioning speedo. I replaced the VSS and still have the problem. The abs light is on alos. I have not traced the wires back yet etc. The immediate area 2 feet of wire near the VSS looks good . Any tips or ideas for this problem been driving by the tach and thats getting old quick.
Thanks
Deo

It might be your ABS computer, which is bolted to the side of the ABS unit under the driver's side battery. After trying a few VSS, I finally replaced that, and it fixed the same symptoms you are describing. Not hard to do, just hard to get to. At the factory, I think they set the ABS unit on a stool and built the truck around it.

I think that is true for everything that goes wrong on my excursion.

I have a abs light on and everything else is working. I think the rear abs is not the cause thinking it's one of the fronts. Would a snap on scanner tell me?

I just today fixed the same problem with mine. Are you're turn signals working? If not, pull out your fuse box and gem. Look at the two big plugs going into the back of fuse box, pull off back plastic covers. The first easiest plug to pull off is the black plug, after unplugging, look at the face of it, upper right is the feed to abs and turn signals. Turn it over with cover off, should be white wire w/violet stripe. My wire connector backed out of plug and was no longer making connection with fuse box connector.
