Spring change vs lift kit

What is the groups feelings between a F250 or F350 spring change vs a Superlift or Skyjacker lift kit on a 05 X?
Thanks
Greg

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

I have a Donahoe Racing 4.5" lift and did the 350 springs V and B codes a couple weeks ago. The rear is much more smooth riding than it used to be before the spring change. I haven't measured yet but it is at least 1.5"-2" taller with the new springs. Definately notice how much taller the step is getting into the truck now.

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

I'm planning on doing the same thing, how much of a total lift did you end with? What size tire and wheels are you running?

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

I think I'm at about 6"-6.5" total lift. I am running 35" ProComp AT tires but want to go to the 37" ProComp Extreme AT. It will be tight and I might have to rearange the edge of the fender right behind the bumper area, that looks like it will be the place it will rub. I would like to get back a little gearing that I lost when I did 4.30's, that's the reason for 37's.

I was at 44" from ground to wheelwell edge before the springs, now I'm at 46" to 47" depending on how it sits with the springs (V&B's) installed.

Sorry I forgot, I'm running 17 X 9 Robby Gordon wheels.

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

I would not use Anything but a Donahoe system on a SD. A hangerkit with SD springs is as good as it gets.

What year do you have...fill your sig!

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

I have a 05 4x4 EB Red Excursion.

How about an "add a lift" set up?

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

Greg,
I am running F350 springs, 4" block and F350 leveling kit and the rear spring pack is the modified B pack with Ex bits in it. Take a look at the pics, I have a total of 4" over stock, and rides great, and will ride even better when I get my new shocks in the mail and get them installed...

Do you mean, "add a leaf"? It's a cheaper way to go but I would stay away from the add a leaf systems. Some guys on here have used them, (I used one on my old Toyota 4WD) they tend to ride stiffer and give a minimum lift. Caryt and I both have the same setup, a 4.5" DR spring hanger drop kit, blocks in the rear, with V and B codes. It rides really good with 35's.

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

I firmly belive the best way to go is a SD spring change for just a small lift but next choice would be a mini pack by Donahoe.

Re: Spring change vs lift kit

I've been running my "new" springs for more than a year now. As everyone will tell you, the difference is noticeably better. I also have Air Lift SD air bags installed. The bags are only used when I'm towing the TT.
