Spring codes

Since I purchased my X second hand, I have no idea if there are any changes suspension wise. Can you tell by the part numbers on the springs if they are V or B or whatever? I love my X but I'd like to change the ride and I'd like to know if there were any previous changes, so I can have ya'll help me make some decisions. I'm sure it would be to simple for them to say U code or V code on the springs!!!!

Re: Spring codes

Wish it was that simple. Part number and other markings on the springs are all different. Spring code is on the B pillar (drivers door jamb) but that won't tell you if they've been changed.

If the frint springs are flat or have a reverse arch, they're stock D codes.

Re: Spring codes

Well Mr. Family Ride -
You helped out immensely ! I have taken a very good look at them over the last few days and they are "reverse arch". As a matter of fact, I remember thinking to myself that they looked worn out, because of bending the wrong direction.

Do the stock D codes give a more harsh ride? I seem to rock back and forth like a rocking horse, and it's not worn out shocks. The shocks stop the rocking action quickly. I'd like you to drive mine and see what you think.

If I'm not mistaken, you live around the Flower Mound area and have done some suspension upgrades. If you have some spare time I would love to meet up with you so I can see what you've done. Let me know - my time is extremely flexible. What's your schedule today?

Re: Spring codes

Actualy I haven't done anything to mine. I'd like to do U or V code fronts but I dont' know what I'd want to do with the rears and since I tow, I'd need to do something because I would be nose high towing.

For now mince does fine and maybe one day I'll start doing some things with it, but I just kind of fell off the mod train. I'm just driving it! Besides, I think I'll be doing brakes before long, but I'm not sure what. I'm starting to get more brake pulsing.

Oh, on the springs above I should have added, "if they are allowing about 1/2" before bottoming out....". If tyou hit something hard enough, you'll bottom out. I think sometime in 2003 they changed over to these spongy bump stops that are designed to be "rode on". In other words, the old rubber ones hit too hard when they bottomed out, so now that hit softer, when they bottom out.

Re: Spring codes

My 02 HAD the big sponge stops that the front literally rode on. Updating to the 03 black rubber cone stops was an improvement over the 02 design. That allowed the shocks to actually do their job.
