I have been reading posts about V-codes, X-codes, and ABC codes. I have been trying to figure out what your all talking about for a few months now, but can't. So I finally have to break down and expose my lack of mechanical knowledge in shame and ask, what are these and what are the differences and how would these improve my Excursion?

They are the different type of front springs, from a Super Duty truck, that some of the members are using to enhance the height, stability and handling of their X. Each code refers to a specific capacity and travel rating. The X normaly comes from the factory with "d" codes in the front and "g" codes in the rear. Hope I explained this right, I'm learning this stuff just like you!!
You should get plenty of responces to your questions on this subject from the experts but in the mean time follow SeppDietrich's advice and do a search. There is a lot of info on this subject available to you without waiting.

you are correct. The letter codes correspond to capacities of the spring. If you look at the sticker on the drivers side door jamb you will see what codes you have.

Basically the frame's mounting points are all the same on the Super Dutys. So that makes you wonder why some 4x4 Super Dutys sit taller or lower then the others. They have come from the factory with different springs. The X's pretty much sit the lowest of them all. So if you were to swap the springs of your X to that of a Super Duty truck that sat taller it would raise your X.
BUT since you bought an Edge 4.5 Suspension lift you've already changed your springs (unless yours is a hanger lift). So if you were to swap springs now it would not raise your X it would probably lower it.
