My 4X4 PSD Excursion has been getting between 16 to 16.5 MPG when crusing at 70 MPH. I just took a trip where the speed was held at 85 MPH (had to cover 1000 miles in one day)& checked the milage over three tankfuls. My milage only went down to 15.3 mpg.
What does not make sense is why it did not go down more. Does it make sense to anyone else? I'm not complaining about the 15.3 @ 85 but wish I could get better milage at 70.
The 15.3 seems about right for mine at that speed, but I see much better than you at 70mph. I tend to see high eighteen's, low 19's assuming that the trip is say 100 miles, etc.
Regards,
Dave
PS - Hook a heavy trailer to it and pull for 100 miles and then try the 70 test . . .I can't prove it, but I sure seem to get better mpg after running my EGT's around 900 for a couple of hours.

Mark that sounds about right, and you could have been still getting some winter blend feul.Glad to see your 94 6.5 is good to you my 99 6.5 was a 18,000 mile dawg! Enjoy your POWER STROKE!Joe M.
I am getting better than 18 MPG (hand calculated) in metro Atlanta driving which is a mix of interstate and surface streets. The only trip mileage , a short 250 mile trip, gave me 20.5 MPG.

When brand new (15 miles on it)I was getting 20+ @ 65-70mph on the long haul (no stops). Milage dropped to 17 for combined city hwy (always warm starts - I was trying to break it in ASAP). Now that I let it sit and it gets cold (takes 10 miles to warm up) the combined city/hwy has dropped to 15-16 mpg. I'm not sure why but it seems that cold starts and short runs really kills the MPG. It is almost like they pour the fuel in when it is cold (cold is ouside air at night drops to 55F). So for now with 800 miles it looks like current MPG is around 14 city(short trips), 16-17 city hwy, 18-20 hwy, towing over Santa Cruz hills with 7000lb (heavy foot) 12mpg.
This is using the computer and resetting it to make new measurements. The computer seems to be almost dead on over the first 500 miles but the accuracy for the short tests above need to be measured over a much longer perion of time.

Average MPG 17.5?, City MPG 16?, Highway MPG 19.5?, Towing Bass Boat MPG 17?
After reading about the mileage differences occuring I started a spreadsheet to track my mileage. I now have 2K miles and my total average is 13.96. It breaks down like this 13.66, 15.31, 12.43, 14.61 all hand calculated. I also have been tracking price difference and money saved per tank. So far $38.47 saved in buying diesel . These miles are split highway/city with not many long runs usually only 10 miles or so. On the longer trips the mileage easily goes up over 15 somewhere. I've also been monitoring the computer calculated mileage, it has varied also. It breaks down like this, first tank I didnt get so it starts with the second tank at hand calculated 15.31 MPG, computer 15.4. Then I reset the computer at fill up, next tank 12.43(hand), 13.9(computer). No reset on computer on this fill up, next tank 14.61 (hand), 15.0 (computer). It seems that not reseting the computer seems the way to go so far. I'm not going to reset for awhile and see how it goes.
Now I read closer and most of you guys are 7.3 drivers. Oh well I added my 6.0 stuff in there for ya anyway.
Just took a 200 mi. trip last week. Outbound was getting approx. 19 mpg at 65 mph. Return trip was a little less; figured I had a headwind. Was getting 18+ at same speed. Haven't towed yet this season.
