Suspension tightening

My 02 X has 77K miles on it at present. I have begun to notice that the ride has started to get a bit sloppy. I'm going to have some new shocks installed, but I think one of the things I am feeling really isn't related to shocks. When the X was new I could push on it from the side and the thing wouldn't budge. Now I push on it and it has some play to it. "Wobble" for lack of a better term. What's the solution to tightening this back up? Body/frame bushings? Suspension bushings?

Re: Suspension tightening

I have an '01 with a about 95k miles on it. Ride was bugg'n me too so I made some changes (bilstein shocks and hellwig anti-sway bar in sig).

After replacing the stock shocks and installing sway bar, the truck rides much better. The shocks smooth out the ride a bit, and the sway bar minimizes body roll (the side to side motion).

Radius rods will be installed shortly to help with steering wander, and thinking about installing a steering stabilizer. I'm also thinking about replacing the bump stops with shorter ones - there is less than an inch of travel in the front end right now.

Hope that helps.

Re: Suspension tightening

Thanks for the reply. Here's the thing: My X just doesn't have the steering wander thing that so many complain about, and because it didn't wobble from side to side when newer, I just can't believe that it has anything whatsoever to do with a rear sway. Not that I don't think there are other benefits to a rear sway, because I might do that also. What I'm talking about is being able to stand next to the drivers door, push it and have it easily move from side to side, and more importantly how that slopiness is felt on the road. It just wasn't like that when new, so I have to think it's a bushing thing.

And yes, some Bilisticks will be put on as well. Don't think I want to hassle with the spring thing though.

Re: Suspension tightening

It might be a good idea to check your ball joints...upper and lower.
