I replied in the 'other section' - Baja Claw radials with 12,600 miles on them - I'll get another set since the wear seems to be good with 3/4 tread left. I'll rotate more frequently though since the fronts seem to wear differently than I've ever seen.........

I still have the stock Firestone Steeltex AT's (32K) that are ok in the summer but suck in ice and snow with the hard compound. I think my next set will be LT265/75R16E Michelin LTX M/S.
I replaced the original Firestone SteelTex tires after a little over 50K miles. I replaced them with Dunlop Rover AT's. I have about 10k miles on the Dunlops and I am very happy with them. I do mostly town and highway driving, occaisionally some dirt roads and occaisionally a 5-6k pound horse trailer. I chose the Dunlop's based on wet traction, tread life, highway noise, and price.... in that order.

I just replaced my Steeltex's (at the 50,000 mile point) with Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's.
Probably a bit more aggressive tread than a 4x2 needs, but I frankly got tired of the constant hydroplaning (BAD), and NO traction in snow of the Steeltex "highway style" tread design.
These new tires perform perfectly, rated high in every respect, and have absolutely NO (none, nada, zip) highway noise.

Replaced Steeltex last month. Tread separated at 17000 miles. Got rid of the whole set asap. Put on Yokohama Geolander AT II. Went up to 285's. Tread is very thick and soft. Feels kinda squirelly(sp). Going to inflate to 65 psi. Right now it's at 60.
I upgraded the D-rated Firestones to E-rated Bridgestone AT Revo's for towing. I had them on for less than a month due to "tread squirm" - dealer's term. When you'd change lanes slowly all was well, but if you had to turn more sharply the tires would cut and you'd be over in the next lane faster than you realized. This was noticeable towing or not, but much more pronounced with a heavy load. Most unsettling.
I traded those in for Toyo Open Country AT E-rated in the factory size and have been totally pleased with them. They were also less than the Bridgestones.
I'm new at this computer talk. But I just traded my firestones in on BFG Muds .I got 45+ K with NO blowouts with the last 3 sets on my 73 K5 Blazer, they are a little noisy But I like them. Only 24K on my 01 X 4x4 .I went with 285 75 16s had them for 3 days when my trans. went south.Don,t know what the damage is yet.Its at FORD(bumper to bumper warr.)

Still sitting on the fence. Want BF AT's for nothing more than looks, but can get my hands on a set of Wrangler ATS for half the price. Let a neighbor scare the crap out of me this weekend by telling me how he lost his sister-in-law earlier in the summer in a steeltex blowout and roll over in NC. Going to do something before next week. Want to go up to a 285, but only have 5/8" of garage clearance now. I know if I do go up to 285 I should replace spare, but do I really need to? Lets say you have a set of 265 from the factory and you put 40K miles on them and have a flat so you slap on the new 265 spare. Is this not also throwing the LS in a bind, or is the height difference in the old vs the new tire not a problem? The reason I bring this up is we just got through replacing some tires on one of our company trucks. We had them standing up in the shop floor and noticed a couple of things.
The new mounted 285 was taller than the new 265 that was on the truck as a spare, but the difference in height was much greater between the new 265 spare and the old 265's we were taking off. Ju
I traded my Steeltex's and $20 per tire for 285 Dunlops when my Ex had less than 500 miles. The Dunlops were not my choice really, but were kind of a win-win deal between my tire dealer and I. Hopefully he used my Steeltex's for tire swings. The Dunlops were ok, but I think a ply separation was developing in one tire, and they were almost worn out by 55K miles. I replaced them with Coopers. I have about 70K on the Coopers and am totally satisfied, with traction, tread, low noise, and mileage. I'm planning on buying them again. It's not good to run tires of different sized on a LS axle. You have a 50% chance that the flat will be on the front which doesn't have LS. Otherwise, you could put on the spare and drive to the first decent spot and re-locate the spare to the front, or get your flat fixed. After two sets of 285's, I think I'll buy 5 Coopers and replace my spare next time. Then all I'd need is another alloy wheel. Dale

I replaced the Steeltex at 17K miles with BFG AT/KO 265's. They have nearly 50K miles on them. They have shown more wear on the outside tread even with rotation at 7-8k miles. They have also required rebalancing a couple of times. Because of the outside tread wear, I figure they may go 65 - 70k miles at most.
Overall a very durable tire with great traction under all conditions. They will get louder with more miles, but not too bad. Last time I had them balanced, one tire has always required more weights. The tech at Sears says that the rim is slightly bent. Not sure I replace with same, may go with Coopers 285's
A friend has had two, no three sets of 285 BFG TA KO's on his Ex. The first set couldn't be balanced very well and at about 40K, 3 had cracks in the tire between the treads near the sidewall that were showing the steel plies. Second set couldn't be balanced. They found only one good tire out of four. Of the three replacement tires that were ordered, the first one they tried couldn't be balanced, so they sent the three back and raised heck over the phone. The next 4 that came in balanced ok, but one still needed quite a bit of weight to balance. Same tread wear issues as mentioned in the earlier post, and they will get noisy if you don't rotate them every 5K, and if you get one or more that can't be balanced. My friend's wheels were checked and are true and balanced. Michelin says that the 285's are too wide for the stock wheels, and that's the problem. Those of us involved don't agree. I wouldn't buy BFG's since two dealers here feel that their quality and attitude is in the tank. FYI, the dealer who fixed the problem wasn't the one who sold the tires. That dealer threw in the towel long ago, and left it to my friend to deal with. Just MHO and that of two local dealers. Dale

I had 63K on my original Firestones, and would still have them on if it wasn't for the guy that thought he needed to place his knife in the sidewall of one.
I replaced them with 18" Toyo's. They have a heavy weight rating and are great in the rain.
I have the ProComp 315's (35") with the 50k warranty. ProComp was the only place I found had a warranty on large tires. I have about 35k on them now and I'll get to at least 50k with them. I also tow a 8-10k toy hauler tt and have had no problems.
