TC Questions??

Can someone explain to me how the torque converter works and why people are manually locking it?? I have learned about many things on this forum but I am in the dark about this whole issue. I keep reading threads on it and it makesa no sense to me.

HERE is how a torque converter works.

When the torque converter is unlocked it slips by design. When it is slipping it generates A LOT of heat. By manually locking the torque converter you eliminate that heat.

You also eliminate the torque multiplication that a torque converter creates, and you can damage the torque converter if you try to lock it at too low of an RPM.
