Test Drove 2005 Excursion

I test drove three 2005 Excursions today. The dealers just got them in. I drove 2 - 2wd's and 1 4wd. All were Limited. As always, the following are my OPINIONS...

1 - All had 2004 Engines in them. What's up with that? All of the 2005 trucks had 2005 Engines. They had a RED sticker, isntead of BLUE and it said 2004 Engine with the lower TQ ratings...

2 - The DASH STAYS THE SAME. I like the new dashboard in the F250/350's.

3 - At least they updated the Front end... Was starting to get scary there for a second. New headlights and Front Fascia like the F250/350.

4 - New Color interior, Pebble, not much different than Parchment... The options are pretty much the same as 04, except, the darn Engine Block heater is optional and not one of the ones down here has it. Now, I know I am in Florida, and chances are I will never need it here. But FORD US FLORIDIANS DO DRIVE OUT OF FLORIDA... When I go on vacation I go up North (and drive slow, like you northerners do when you retire down here). So now I have to look and see how hard it is add one, or else I have to order one and have it added with order.

I am seriously considering taking advantage of the rebates and buying a late made 2004 or getting a 2005 F250 because of this. Too bad, because I found my dream 2005 Excursion and it is quite a bit of coin with a MSRP of 54k.

5 - I still like the way they ride and it was hard telling the ride difference between the 4wd and 2wd, except you were up higher and the new ones didn't the swaying at high speed like my 2004 2wd had. You guys/gals with the added sway bar and shocks will proably still say they suck though.

All in all, I still liked it, but now it is harder to decide between the 004 and 2005.

So the 4x4 "did" have coils up front? That would certainly make a difference in ride over a 2004!

I *think* it did... Com to think of it, I can't remember. I test drove so many different trucks. If I go back today (not feeling well right now) to buy something, I'll double check.

Dak,

Where did you test the 2005? I'll give them a try.
Keep in touch.

Re: Test Drove 2005 Excursion

Dak,

What happened with your X? I've had mine almost 5 years with very little problems. It's got 33,00 miles on it and the only real problem I had was when I had the turbo go. I dropped it off on a Monday night and picked it up Tuesday at noon. All but $50 on the warranty. Are you still working downtown? If you get down to Pinecrest let me know and we can get lunch. I see Singer once in a while. he's still at 5.

I still work downtown, but I live south of pinecrest in Palmetto Bay. BTW, I'm number 42 on the Sgt.'s list. World Ford of Kendall test drove it and the truck shut-off. Replaced the computer, shut-off again, replaced the computer (again) and a sensor and it shut-off again. The diesel tech said the harness should be changed, Ford declined. After failing again, I filed for Florida Lemon Law, Ford settled before the hearing. BTW, when the truck shut off, it wouldn't restart or even turn the motor over. Try stopping a 8,000lb SUV with no power brakes or steering.

Looking to buy an 05.. I actually want a F250/350 truck, my wife wants another Excursion. I'll PM you my cell #.
