Re: Thinking about getting a PSD Excursion and have ?'s

I can answer a few questions and someone will pick up where I leave off. I average about 14 MPG, but have seen as high as 17. I have a 2000 but I think the 01’s are about the same if not exactly the same. The real change came with the 02’s. If you are towing try to get one with the towing mirrors, I have used them too many times when the other mirrors probably would not have worked. Try to get a “Limited” edition. You get the leather and basically a loaded out truck. I must admit I don’t know the great differences between the XLT and the limited. I would think you should expect to pay between $26k to $32k depending on options like four wheel drive, etc. Hope this helps.

Re: Thinking about getting a PSD Excursion and have ?'s

Two differences I know of between 00 and 01 are foglights (handy) and 15 more HP (but no more torque, so you probably won't feel the extra power). Trucks built after Nov 00 have a better airbox, but you can get that installed under warrantee anyway.

I'd buy one under warrantee if possible. My LSD and steering box have both required replacement under warrantee. So did the ring gear, but I suspect that the mechanic who installed the LSD damaged the ring gear.

The 02 model has a bunch more fancy luxury stuff. I think it's all useless crap targetted at chicks, especially because they didn't even fix the suspension or add an off-road package option.

Re: Thinking about getting a PSD Excursion and have ?'s

My recommendation would also be to look for the Limited package. The difference between the XLT and the Limited is very much like the comparison between the XLT and Larriat(sp) packages in the pickup line.

I see you're here in Kalifornia, so, Unless you're absulutely certain you'd have need for a 4X4, my recommendation would be to look for a 4X2, expecially if it's going to be a commuter/traveler/tower.

The ride difference is significant! Also the fuel mileage difference is pretty significant. My truck's only a few months old now, and the worst mileage I ever saw was 14.5 towing on the highway. I've since raised that figure to 15.5 by towing at 70mph instead of 75.
My highway mileage not towing (75mph cruising) is always at least 21.5.
My mixed driving (daily commuting of a 50/50 mix) is now 16.5 consistent.

I love the "lazy boy on wheels" ride of the 4X2.
It also handled so much better than the 4X4's I test drove, they just didn't seem to corner anywhere near as "comfortable". Felt a little nervous on curvy on/off ramps. I thought the ride on the 4X4 to be a little too harsh to justify buying it, in light of the fact I'm not an off roader, and might have to use the 4X4 function once or twice in a 5 year span.

No, that's not factory badging, it's what I think they should have done though.

Hope that helps.

Re: Thinking about getting a PSD Excursion and have ?'s

My mileage in town has been 16-18 MPG depending on my driving style. Hwy trip to Corpus Christi (900 miles)70 MPH was 20.5. Other differences in '00 and '01 are "upgraded leather seats". Price should be your biggest factor. BTW, there is a '01 White 4x2 LTD PSD by my work for sale if your interested.

Re: Thinking about getting a PSD Excursion and have ?'s

Thanks for the replys so far. I definately want a 4x4. I live in the foothills and go to the snow requiring a 4x4. Keep 'em coming...thanks.

TurboDave, I too can't figure out why they didn't label the PSD on the Excursions.

Thinking about getting a PSD Excursion and have ?'s

As you can see from my signature, I have a 1995 PSD pickup. I'm thinking about upgrading to an Excursion. I want to buy a used one and I was wondering what to look for. Is there any difference between the '00 and '01? What kind of mpg should I expect? What options are desireable? I'm going to be using it mainly for commuting and a little towing. Thanks for all your help.
