Thud or a noise in front end?

My excursion has a thud in the front whenever a semi-large bump is in the road. My friend's Excursion also has this thud, but not as bad as mine. Several of you had asked me to report back on my Excursion early last month, and this is the only "problem" I have had with 2000 miles on it. It really is a fine highway cruiser.
Richard
PS. This noise will go away (or will not occur) when the brakes are applied. Do you think it may be the calipers?

I had the same problem and it will not go away. I took it back to the dealer twice. The first time they couldn't find the problem and told me that it would go away. I drove it for about another two weeks and just could n't swallow the answer I got and the price I paid so I went back. It turned out to be that the sway bar was loose. They tightened it up and I haven't had the noise since.

Did your noise go away while the brakes were applied?

Re: Thud or a noise in front end?

I don't remember if it did with or without the brakes applied. I know it got worse and I wasn't going to allow the dealers explanation to suffice me.
Needless to say they fixed it the second time.
It doesn't make that noise anymore.

Mine is a 2 wheel drive. I have not taken it back to the dealer as yet, as this is the only problem I have. I thought something else would show up, and I would get all taken care of at once. Actually, I just filled the tires up equally this weekend, 55 in front and 50 in back, and it now pulls slightly to the right. The front left tire was about 4 lb lower than the right.

I know people have ben having a few problems, but mine has only these two problems ( that I know of ) in 5500 miles. Bought in October.

If you get yours fixed before I do anything, please post. I will do the same.

OK, I see the post. Will try the tire pressures this weekend. Let me know if you try the post and it works.

Please post the part number of the caliper pins if they solve your problem.

EWhite
I don't think the tire pressures themselves are to blame, if they are equal. I think the frontend needs adjustment.

Re: Thud or a noise in front end?

Fields... With 55 in front and 50 in back your 2WD pulls slightly to the right? Is it still doing it? I think I have 55 in my front (don't know about the back ) and mine pulls slightly to the right. Anyone know the fix for this?

Took my excursion in yesterday for the front end noise. I called it a front caliper rattle that seemed to go away when the brakes were applied.

Picked it up on Friday, May 26th. Response was "Can't duplicate noise".

I have not had time to drive it since picking it up. I had them do a few things while it was in.

I think I will go to an old Plantation house for Saturday night in Lousiana. I plan to take the excursion, and use it for a test drive.
