Tire Choice for 03 X

I am getting ready to put new tires on my 03 Excursion. The last set I put on (Bridgestone Dueler H/T) only lasted less than 30,000 mi. Can anyone recommend a tire that will have a longer lifespan? I primarily drive to and from work but also pull a boat 2-3 times/month. I need tires which will provide good traction at the ramp as well as a smooth ride on I-95.

Thanks for any suggestions!

BFG AT. Never had to have them reballanced and they are tough as nails. Been running them on my one ton four door bronco for four and a half years now. Lots of road traffic and I tow my camper with them. Good on and off road. My $.02...........

I've got Nitto Terra Grapplers on mine, about 40k on them now, still plenty of tread left. I tow a boat quite a bit during the summer months and have found them to be great tires, smooth and quiet on the street, really excellent in the wet (very little tendancy to hydroplane). I personally like them much better than BFG ATs for a mostly street driven truck. If you get off road much then IMO the BFGs are better.

Got Ravo high load range on the X now and don't like them all at, waste of money.

Got 80K miles out of a set of BFG AT's and the second set had two go to 70K miles. Did have a blow out at 25K miles though.

Right now got a set of Terra Grapplers on the SRW and really like them, way better than the Ravo's and way cheaper.

+1 on the BFG AT. Had a set on my ol' F350 last 96K miles, and they were load range "D" rated. Will get another set of those when it's tire-time for the X.

Bridgestone Revo's. I have nearly 70k miles on mine, now even with wear bars. Good in rain and deep snow. Quieter than BFG AT and wear more even.

Third on the Bridgestone Revo's. At 60,000 on the second set, got 80,000 on the first set, and expect to do that well on the second set. Very very good in the snow, rain, and dry. Never really tried them in mud, but they should do okay with their large tread voids. And, quiter than most any all terain tires out. Oh, and I too pull boats sometimes, the largest being 35' so far.

86GLHS: You never said why you don't like your Revo's except that they cost more than another brand. I've either put them on, or talked others into putting them on a Jeep, Ford Ranger, Expedition, Chevy 2500, and the Excursion. All were very happy with them.

BFG AT load range E. Good tire, don't put a lot of miles on them but firm ride and sidewall. I recommend even though they are pricey sometimes you can find a deal.

Michelin LTX M/S. 50,000 miles plus, good traction and smooth riding. COSTCO can get them or they stock Michelin X Radial LT which is COSTCO/Sams Club private label that Michelin makes. It is the same tire.

Hope this helps,
john

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo LT 285/75 R16
On second set and will buy a third set when needed.
I tow a 30 ft trailer. Tires wear fine and are great in all conditions.
