Tow Mirror - Upper Glass - Icons Don't Match!?!?

Tow Mirror (MTTT)- upper glass question??

Long story, so I will skip the incident, here is what I got, I ordered and received an upper glass replacement for my damaged left (driver's side) mirror. I noticed that the defroster icon (maybe it's the heater element) is smaller on the new mirror than my original mirror on both left and right sides. While at the Ford dealership, I looked at a second new left mirror and it also had the smaller icon. I then had the parts guy look at a right side mirror for me and it had a larger icon like my original left and right mirrors. On an Excursion, I guess Ford recently changed the part number on the left side but not on the right, F*&amp;#, here we go again. I did some quick researching and I guess the newer models, with the lighted MTTT mirrors, have smaller icons while the older models like mine have the larger icons. This sounds crazy but I like things to match. I put one Excursion mirror (small icon) side by side with the other (large icon) and they look identical, front and back, other than the icons. I did some more checking and it appears that both MTTT mirrors for a Super Duty have different part numbers than the Excursion mirrors. By the way, the parts guy told me that both left and right side mirror part numbers recently changed on the Super Duty. <font color="blue"> I was thinking of ordering the left side mirror for a Super Duty, figuring that it would have the smaller icon, and was wondering if it would fit my Excursion's MTTT mirrors even though the part numbers do not match? I would think they would because they look like clones but maybe there is something inside that is electronically different? Has anyone else has run into this or has any positive ideas. I figure someone has had to replace their mirror recently. </font>

Sorry again about the long story and I hope it was not too confusing to follow.

Thanks!!

-Mike

Re: Tow Mirror - Upper Glass - Icons Don't Match!?!?

I think as long as the 2 wire pair for the heated mirror plug in it should function heater wise but I recall the icon is smaller on the newer TT mirrors.

I gotta go to the glass/mirror shop to have an upper cut for the right side but won't have the heater function which we really don't need.

Re: Tow Mirror - Upper Glass - Icons Don't Match!?!?

Thanks Bill!!

Yeah, I thinking the same thing but Ford isn't making it easy and giving me that warm fuzzy feeling if you know what I mean. Don't know why the replacement part for the left side does not have the smaller icon like the right side unless Ford has still has a large supply of the the older left side glass. The right side probably gets replaced more often and may be why the revised / new part number.

Take care,

-Mike

Re: Tow Mirror - Upper Glass - Icons Don't Match!?!?

Yeah why carry the same exact mirror functional wise with heater in two part numbers for the two different sized icons,it kinda makes sense for them to go to one part number for the heated one.

I look towards going to the lighted TT mirrors later this year thus why I'm only going to band-aid the damaged right side mirror till then.

Re: Tow Mirror - Upper Glass - Icons Don't Match!?!?

That’s' cool, let me know if you need the link for the conversion to the lighted mirrors.

As for the part numbers, why have two completely different part numbers, one for the Excursion and one for the Super Duty if, possibly, they are the same exact parts. Unless it is for quick ID purposes, they use the first few digits to separate the two vehicles in the computer, inventory, and what ever else.
