After following many peoples' exhaust mod experience, I finally decided to replace the OEM muffler on my 2001 4WD 7.3 Excursion with a Walker BTM. I was surprised to find a "whistle" during light throttle cruise @ 40 -45 MPH. Also, it is quite loud (inside the cabin) with strong whistling under substantial throttle (way louder than stock inside). I have not towed withthe Walker yet, but I hope that it will not be really loud, towing up long steep grades.
Does this sound typical with a Walker, or could there be an exhaust leak or a defect in the muffler?
It is not as bad as I had feared towing a tall, 5k lb horse trailer up long hills, but I think the drone when towing all day will get to me. It looks like the end of the system could be pretty easily rerouted from a rear side exit to a full rear exit, perhaps with a bit of an extended tip.
Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I think I will go with the hushpower instead...heard it was better on the Ex if you were concerned about noise inside

Nevr heard of hushpower.. Drop one in and let us know. Looks like a $200 BTM to me??? Again I have 135K on mine and tow a 31TT with no noise or drone.
You think his BTM has a problem ?? or did he get the wrong one ??

I dont know for sure but many many people are using the BTM and u just dont hear many complaints about drone. I picked up my dads BTM off a friends X because of "Drone" and he has gone thru a MBRP and MAgnaflow and still has "drone". Other buddy put a BTM on his 02 F250. Same "drone" complaint so he replaced with 4" FloPro system and same "drone". He's wishes for his BTM and $500 back.
No aftermarket muffler is going to be as quiet as STOCK. No way. No How! Again IMHO..
Understand that......So do you have drone in your Ex ? Makes alot more difference in an Ex...big ole box over the pipes to amplify .....Trucks are not going to have as big of an issue

none whatsoever. my dads 00 2wd appears to have more only at a certain rpm but his truck is so much quieter than mine its easier to hear it. Its ridiculous how much quieter his is than mine and mine is quiet compared to others i have been in. Cant figure it out to save my life!! Same tunes, oil, intake, exhaust, fuel additive. His is just quiet!!
Anyone care to comment on the possible effect of relocating the exhaust outlet to the rear, exiting behind the rear bumper? (Looks like it should not be that hard to do.)
Tunes also make a big difference in drone. Stock no drone. Tune have drone. Amd that is with my new stock exhaust system. Yes I bought a new OEM system because I couldn't take it anymore. With tune still have drone.
