Washing and Drying the Monster (UGGGH!)

OK....I've got to complain a bit here. I love my Ex, but I have never owned a more frustrating vehicle to wash. I don't mind the size. It's all of the nooks and crannies that hold water after I dry the beast off. Water keeps coming out of the rear windows, the roof rack rails, the TT mirrors, door handles, etc, etc, etc. Once I think I have her dried off.....I have to go around the vehicle about 12 more times to keep dabbing up the trails of water before they dry and cause spotting. Then, when I get the water trails to stop.....I take my clean Ex for a spin....and whammo.....water spots all over the side caused by the remaining water being blown out of those darn TT mirrors. Did I mention I love my EX? I know I can blow this stuff out with my compressor, but that doesn't help when I wash away from home. Oh well.....just something we have to live with, I suppose, eh?

Re: Washing and Drying the Monster (UGGGH!)

I haven't washed mine yet. How does the LS differential perform on the snow and ice? I didn't get factory LS but am thinking about getting an Auburn LS. do you think the PPP3 is worth the money?

Re: Washing and Drying the Monster (UGGGH!)

If you take the nozzle off your hose and just let the water stream run most of the water off the body. Then you can take your yard drive way blower and get most of it then just finish up with a towel.

Piece"O"Cake: Forget the shammy, Take off rack X members(leave off till needed). I use Costco's RV brush to wash it then a squeegee for the big drops and about three of wifes old bath towels. Use a step latter if your verticality challenged, use one anyway. It's fast, works for me cliffsurfs

Re: Washing and Drying the Monster (UGGGH!)

About 5 miles from my house is a Phillips 66 gas station with an automatic carwash with neoprene brushes.

The Excursion WILL fit in, barely.

It has an air dryer that gets rid of most of the water after the wash. After that I open the mini-van windows and turn either the heat or a/c on with the fan on it's highest setting. Don't do it on Max a/c because that recirculates the air in the truck and won't help it blow off the windows. After I get the windows open and the air cranking, I get on the highway (it's only 1/8th of a mile from the wash) and drive 65 mph or more for a couple of miles.

When I do this, the only thing I have to towel dry is the rear liftgate and doors.

It works well, and this is on a BLACK truck.

Re: Washing and Drying the Monster (UGGGH!)

Worm, to be honest with you, I have not noticed that the LS diff has helped..or hurt any. Can't really tell it's even there.

As far as the PPIII goes. I would highly recommend it. Made a HUGE difference in performance. I went with the PPIII for several reasons. Easy installation. No physical tell-tale signs of installing a chip on my PCM..and one could argue that this may help in avoiding warranty problems. And lastly, I do not tow regularly, so was interested in anything "Hotter" than the PPIII.
Cheers, Toolman

Re: Washing and Drying the Monster (UGGGH!)

I wouldn't try the "leaf-blower" trick... sandblasted paint doesn't look too good.
