Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Has anyone here had any experience with this or something similar?

The window seal doesn't appear to be bent and the window closes just fine.

We get a lot of rain here and I had to set an appointment at dealer. Dealer said just to diagnose the problem its $184!!!!!!! YIKES!!!!

Any input would be great but I have a feeling to the dealer we go.

Damn.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Are you talking about the rear 1/4 windows that pop out? If so I had mine to the dealer numerous times for this exact problem, well not exactly I had both sides leak. They resealed the seals, they replaced both windows and seals and it still leaked. They ended up pulling down the headliner, leaving a hose run water on the roof and found a pin hole in the joint that joins the roof with the side panel above the window. There is a fat bead of sealant on that joint on the roof, they resealed it and repainted it. It's been awhile and no more leak.

They couldn't see the pinhole until the headliner was down and the water was left running. I think I had 5 return trips for this.

My windshield was yet another story!

Yes the rear windows that pop out. Thanks for letting me know about your issue. I will take this into the dealer tomorrow AM with me. Not real happy about going to the dealer but what to do?

Sounds like I have a very similar problem really, the window seal look just fine.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Probably a moot point by now, but, could it be condensation from the a/c lines back there?? Mine dripped and I had to use that black sticky stuff a/c people use to fix my problem.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

I took it in and will see what they say. Rained all last night and was dry this morning. Started driving and water started dripping. This makes me think its the window seal or something along the line. Too much water for it to be AC lines I am guessing. Hopefully its nothing too big.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Been having an on going battle with it too. Have taken it back numerous time with no fix. Plan on just putting a heavy coat of silicone caulking in it and leaving the window closed permanently.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Another idea. Read this in conjunction with TTs and such. Rig up a way to put positive pressure in the vehicle and get a soapy water spray bottle and start spraying and looking for bubbles. You just might find your leak. This just might eleminate the rear windowns real quick.

Just a thought and something I need to do to my TT with a leak I can't find!!

Mine did the same thing. It would sometimes leak bad enough to soak the carpet (which the dealer replaced the matting underneath) and other times it wouldn't leak until I started driving. The water would come in the pinhole in the roof and then run down the window, sometimes getting the headliner wet. I bet it's where the panel joint is on top, sounds exactly like mine.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Ok so dealer called and said its leaking alright from somewhere.

This we know thats why I brought the thing in.

They couldn't find a buletin anywhere about the issue and I asked him to ask around to the other techs to see if they had seen a similar problem. My shuttle driver told me he just took a gal home who had an X in for a water leak

So they are dropping the headliner and going from there. I am sure glad the tech spent two hours determining there was in fact a leak. *** over?

Fix it don't tell me there is a problem. This we know.

Don't tell me about the pain show me the baby!

Gggggrrrrrr..

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

I lived your pain, at least five times back for the rear window leaks then a couple more times for the plastic interior parts they bent up. At least six times for a leaking windshield which was finally replaced, cracked the next day then back in for another one.

Good thing now, no more leaks!

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Ok so went to dealer this AM to pick up truck and looked inside first to see how badly the headliner looked and the plastic trim pieces. It looked really good no evidence of lowering so I step on bumper and on top in the fat bead on each side they had put a bunch of silicone/leakcheck clear in color with no paint to match.

Needless to say I was/am pretty dissapointed that this is the fix for a $50K truck. I could have done what they did! The more I think about it however I am not sure what else they could/can do about it??? Its clearly assembly line quality control issue.

Because the repair looks like something I would do to a $2K boat not a $50K vehicle they agreed to reduce my bill to $200 and take it to the bodyshop to have the guys there at least paint to match the rest of the truck, and they gave me a free rental car for the day. That still seems like a lot of $$$ for what they did but the labor of finding the issue is what costs not the $10 bucks worth of leak stop.

It really seems like a cobb nobb hokie way of fixing the issue but I don't see what else can be done reasonably?????

We will see how it holds.

Leros same thing as you I imagine.

Ford $200 me $0.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Wow ok so I just got a call from dealership and the body department is going to remove the silicone as it can't be painted and use the OEM filler and repaint and make it look factory. They said they would split cost so I am looking at another $125 to have it fixed right. Total cost $325. Doesn't seem too outrageous really to have it look as though there was no leak.

Same repair they would have done it the vehicle is still under warranty.

Any thoughts? Thats $150 away from the turbo back exhaust I wanted

Oh well.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

I found my rear cargo area carpet soaked on a couple occasions ('05 EB). I first thought it was a leak, but after not using the rear AC since December, there's been no more moisture in the rear. I pulled and cleaned the carpets, and replaced the padding. I'll take it to the dealer when the weather warms back up ... warm/humid enough that running the AC will create condensate. 81 degrees today, but around 60 tomorrow,

That's what they did to mine, they used the OEM filler and painted it, can't even tell. No cost though it was under warranty.

Re: Water leak somewhere around passenger side rear window?

Yeah I am keeping ym fingers crossed. This is day 5 w/ no truck.

The more i think about it the more hokie that first repair job was. I asked the manager in charge of the service team if he had a $50K truck and the dealership used $10 bucks worth of silicone to fix the leak and charged him $300 three days later and didn't paint it to match if he would be ok with that.

The guy looked me square in the eyes and said "yes I would be happy if it fixed the problem."

Thats when I knew we weren't seeing eye to eye.

He'll get a great review from me.
