I have everything I need now but this whole modifying the B codes with parts and pieces from the old springs is driving me crazy trying to figure out. It seems there are at least 3 different ways to do it and everyone thinks theirs is the best. I also don't want down time and would rather just do a strait swap.
So who is running the B codes without any modifications and what is your ride like?

Their is only one way to do my B code mod..tried and tested by hundreds since I first did it 5 years ago..others have tried to reinvent the wheel..doesn't hurt to try but doesn't necessarily always work.
Down time??? takes 10 min a spring

It wont work Even with Fs unmodified you will be either low or on the variable rates, Ask Pharmer He did it then upgraded to Cary's B Code mod on Fs.
I have just been working with someone else on a B code Upgrade
Cary's mod of adding the bottom two leafs from the X is the way to go for Bs
YOUR ONLY VARIABLES ARE AS FOLLOWS;
ONE
Height of block X block is 1/2" higher than 250 so some use the 250 block to lower it a bit and decrease spring wrap.
TWO
It is also to possible to use the original X anti wrap in place of the Lower variable rate leaf but if you towing or loaded heavy at times then keep the variable rate.
For Bs that is about all you have to worry about.
Cary, Chime in if I am not correct on any of this for the Bs
I am more familiar with the Fs since that what I did.
For those looking to the F code mod see my pictures and write up and pictures in my signature. Fs have much longer lower leafs with less step between leaf lengths and I believe require the third leaf up from the X pack and it needs to be cut off on one end. This is still an easy mod.
Personally I think the F code mod works out better since the variable rate is a better fit on the F without hitting the nylon pads on the shorter X leafs Since they are not there. Difference My F code mod uses one leaf from the X pack, third leaf up.
Cary’s B code mod use the two bottom leaf.
Possible advantage to my F code mod is if you want more just add the second leaf up from the X pack.
See my pictures and Cary's to see the difference.
Both work well.
I know you have Bs but there are a lot of questions about both and what the differences are.
Hope this helps
Bruce

OK so with Cary's mod I would use the two bottom leafs from the X (but not the long anti-wrap spring) and there is no cutting of the springs necessary? I have seen boertje's mod that involved cutting some leafs and that worried me a little.

There is no cutting of any leaf on the F-code mod that I or Bruce had done. Bruce and I did it the same way. We only did minor trimming of the 3rd leaf of the original X spring pack to get it to fit with the F-code leaf pack and I used the F-code overload leave with good result. Originally I had cut the anti wrap leave and used it on the F-code for height but got rid of that idea because the entire spring was engaged with the over load leaf. I originally adopted the 3rd leave from the original X spring pack so that the overload leaf was not entirely engaged and that the upper leafs would still have travel. Worked out much better as the springs now have travel.

Back up a bit
Are you starting with Bs or Fs???
You can't do the F code mod to Bs
You can do the B code mod to the F codes see Pharmer pictures
I think I like the F code mod better however
As boertje said all you have to cut/trim is one end of the third leaf up from the old X pack you can do it with hack saw and a file if you have to about 15 minutes per spring.
I think boertje was the first to document this F code mod.
Yeah, Bruce is right on the B code F code mod. The F code mod is very simple. Thats why I did it that way (since that was the only spring set available to me at the time). I used a small grinder to shape the end of the 3rd leaf. Took just a few minutes and fits perfect.
Reason I did not use the pharmer method is the plastic from the 4th leave having the potential of riding on the overload leaf. Not sure how relevant that is but at the time I though it better for myself to look at the 3rd leaf instead.

My B mod also uses the Excursion 1/8" spacers in place of the B Code sheetmetal spacers ..allowing greater flex and a better ride quality.

OK thanks guys I think I am getting it figured out. I do have another question; did you have to replace the bolt that holds the spring pack together with a longer one? Anything special about this bolt I should know?

I think I reused the X pack bolt. for two added leafs, should work on the B code mod as well.
Perhaps Cary can confirm.

If doing my B mod and got the B codes with the top spacer and overload its center pin is what is needed. Without the top overloads you will need longer center pins.
Cary
