Window Ventshades

I have seen two different types of mounting for Ford ventshades. One type on the painted part of the door, the other on the rubber window gasket. Is there two different types or are people mounting them wrong? I am getting ready to mount mine and need input. Help. I actually think the mounting to the window rubber looks better.

Thanks,
John

Re: Window Ventshades

If they are the ones from Ford they mount onto the window rubber. Clean them up good with the stuff they include, the rubber cleaner and the alcohol rub pads. We have them on all our family rigs(1 Ranger, 1 Expedition, 2 SuperCabs and 4 Crew Cabs plus the 3 on my Sig. below) and have had no problems with them in -60 to 100 above weather we have here in AK. Re: Window Ventshades

Hey Guys.........

Hang tight before you mount those things. I purchased a set of WeatherTech window vents! These things are awesome! All they do is actually slide in the existing seal on the truck and snap into place. They are held in by pressure on a tab that keeps them between the outside of the window and seal. Tight as a drum and no rattles and NO STICKER junk. I bought them from MacNeil Automotive for like $44.00. 1-800-441-6287 They are made in Germany, and are the only way to go! Good Luck!

Re: Window Ventshades

The set I have attach to the painted part of the door. There is no way they mount to the molding, they are to big for that. They are from Ford in a Ford package with Ford engraved into the plastic. The label on the package says it is for a 2000 Ford Excursion.

Help?

Re: Window Ventshades

Well, just to add fire to the fray,

The set I have are from Ford, with a Ford part number, wrapped in a Ford blister pack, shipped in a Ford box, have the Ford Logo engraved into the plastic, etc. etc. etc.

And they mount on the window rubber trim, NOT the paint. Model year 2000 BTW.

More ?

Just curious, John, did your instructions say to loosen your exterior side mirrors to mount yours?

Re: Window Ventshades

Yes Robyn - the instructions said to loosen the mirror mounts and slid the lip under. I am so confused. Or should I say, Ford is so confusing?

Thanks,
John

Re: Window Ventshades

My dealer installed my Ventshades, it calls for the mirror cover to be loosened and then slip the shade behind it. 3000 miles later the "pressure" on the shade has caused it to "come off" the rubber window edge. I realize they probably wont stay on for long. It's my understanding Ventshades makes the visor for Ford. My is not attached to the paint.

Re: Window Ventshades

OK, John apprently Ford is messin' with us. I just went out and looked at the 4 trucks in my driveway. My 97's mount on the steel part of the door. My 99 Expedition is on the rubber part. Now comes the fun part the 99 Superduty and the Excursion. The 99 truck has the Shades on the Rubber, and the X is on the steel.(Sorry for the above post I guess I've done so many I got confused which mounting was on what vehicle) So apprently there are 2 types. Both need to have the mirror nuts loosend to get the "Tabs" behind the mirror. The only problem I've had was on the 97 when a rock got thrown up off the highway and hit the Ventvisor and cracked it(at least it didn't get the paint). So had to special order 2 rear door visors(wouldn't sell me just 1) and replaced it. What a bear that was ,tape was stuck but GOOD....

Re: Window Ventshades

Update: The package the part is in is labeled "2000 Ford Excursion" Part number: YC3Z-18246-AA and it has a scotch pad that I would think would to be rough up the rubber. The package also comes with the alcohol wipes to prepare the paint. The size of the deflectors looks like they attach to the paint. Any more comments?

John
