Wipers working on their own

Anyone else have their windshield wipers turn on by themselves? They may sweep once or up to 15 times and then quit. Turning them on & off with the switch or pressing the washer button has no effect when they work on thier own. It can be days or just a few miles between episodes and of course they work great for the dealer. Any suggestions? thanks.

Re: Wipers working on their own

There was a recall out for the wiper motor cover on that era X. I know the stated reason was that it might short and catch fire, but I don't know what the related symptoms were, I suppose poltergeist wipers could be one. You should have your dealer check and see if your vehicle was eligible for the recall, and if it's had it done.

Re: Wipers working on their own

In most cases it will be your multi function switch. There are no recalls that I am aware of for this concern.

Re: Wipers working on their own

Had the same problem. They replaced the multi-function switch (fancy name for the stalk or lever arm) under warranty and it's been fine ever since.
