Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

I ordered the Limited 4x4 with all the whistles and a PSD. I have had a PSD for 3 years and really like the engine. However, the dealer has about 5 Excursions on his lot and has an identical version like I ordered in the V10. He will give me a good price on the V10 if I want to take it and I can drive home tomorrow. My PSD is still unscheduled and I don't know when it will be. HELP ME OUT HERE.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

I would give the dealer 3 answers: no, no & no. If he says 2 months for the PSD, then it's 2 months. 6 months from now when the newness of the V10 vehicle starts to fade you'll still be driving the gasser. 8 months from now when the newness of the PSD disappears?? What am I saying?? It won't!Sorry, I forgot my pill today. Stick with the original program, just do what I did, come here more often until it arrives!!

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

I agree with Phil. I would definitely wait for the PSD. That V10 will not compare to the diesel, not now and definitely not down the road. Keep in mind the diesel first of all has almost 3 times the oil capacity, a much larger cooling system, as well as other items which are made heavier to accommodate the PSD. Also, diesel fuel acts as a lubricant for the combustion chamber, whereas gasoline acts as a coolant for the combustion chamber(translated, that means no lubrication qualities resulting in accelerated wear). Down the road when the V10 is worn out, with proper maintenace your PSD will still outdo the V10. Also, if you ever decide to sell it, you can always find somebody willing to buy it off of you as a tow rig(even with a couple hundred thousand miles on it). Try that with a gasoline-powered truck! There are also other reasons I can think of to justify waiting on a PSD, but those are just a few. Is there any way of cancelling the order and trying another dealer that maybe has one on the lot? I'm not sure where you live, but in my neck of the woods(Pittsburgh,Pa.), they have the PSD Excursions on the lot. Hope this helps.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

My dealer who is also a personal friend told me he would not sell me the V-10. He drives PSD's and at the time had a V-10 demo because he just sold his PSD demo. His comment was that pulling a 16 ft. utility trailer loaded with a Kawasaki 4-wheeler, the V-10 kept shifting out of overdrive at 65 mph. Since he knew I was driving a Suburban with a 454 he said "it ain't no 454".I have had my PSD Excursion on order since July 22, is to arrive week of Nov. 5. I would wait again.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

WOW:
Those are excellent points made. I wish someone with a PSD EXCURSION would also reply. I haven't even seen a PSD EXC. yet, but I know the engines ability. I am gonna give it a week and maybe if I decide to GAS it up, the option will be available.
I have had the EXCURSION on order about 5 weeks. I waited 5 months for my F350 DRW in 1998, but it was the start-up of the new Super DUTY. Thanks for all your help. I almost feel like I am leaving my bride at the alter by even considering bailing from the PSD. Thanks for your response.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

Excursion7.3PSD -- Just a thought, but perhaps your dealer could try to arrange a dealer trade for a diesel. I know Excursions are hard to come by but your dealer does have a V10 Limited to exchange. In my region, the V10's are very scarce.

Excursion7.3PSD:

I have the animal you want 2000 Limited PSD but in 4X2 Limited slip. I have 1600 miles on it. Around town has gone from 15.5 to 17+ mpg and 20+ on the freeway. My dealer friend sold a V10 version of the same vehicle and the V10 gets 6-8 mpg. The 2000 PSD like they turned the power down a bit conpared to my truck but I paln to chip the EXC. after the PSD breaks in.

Paul S

I searched for Ford dealers in PA with inventory list and did not find a PSD Exc.. Could you provide the dealer name with PSD EXC. in stock?

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

Excursion7.3PSD, no problem. The one dealer I saw it at is called Davies Ford in Connellsville, PA. They have a toll-free number. It is 1-800-400-1224. They always carry a bunch of PSD-equipped vehicles.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

Thought I give an update.
I drove the V10 yesterday. But I had a few problems while trying to decide if I wanted to bail on the order.
1. The wait to start light was inoperable.
2. Once it started I couldn't hear the engine even with the door open and it idled smoothly. No vibrations!
3. I opened the hood to check the engine and it had a distributor cap and spark plug wires.

I realized that without the PSD it was just another SUV. So I pulled out Smokeys VOPC FAQ #2 and made the call: I found out that as of October 29th it is still clean and unscheduled. However, the U43 PSD ordered 10 days before mine, is scheduled for November 8th. Hope mine is following the trend.

Thanks for all the replies to my question. I decided to wait for the girl even if she is being a little COY. I hope the honeymoon is as good as the wait.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

OH: I forgot the most important part. I would have to change my username and probably be banned to the general forums in the future. That is to high a price to pay for using gas instead of diesel.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

Last week the local Ford dealer had three Excursions on his lot consisting of a V10 Limited, a V10 XLT, and a PSD XLT. The Limited is already gone, but I'm gonna try to test drive the XLT's one after the other so I can feel the difference for myself. This will be my first time behind the wheel of a PowerStroke, so it's my first opportunity to see if all the hype is true.

Either way, I'm gonna have to order a Limited for myself and play the waiting game like so many others. I don't expect to commission her until after the first of the year.
