Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

If you decide on a PSD, I would order it ASAP. My dealer told me they were only allocating 3% of Excursion production to PSD's. The majority of PSD's are going to the super duty trucks. The primary engine is the 5.4L and the V10 for the Excursions.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be heading to the dealer as soon as I can.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

No question about it... A PSD is the way to go!

I just test drove an Excursion XLT 4X4 with the Triton V10 and another with the PowerStroke Diesel. Both engines were up to the task of moving the truck around, but the PSD had quite a bit more "kick" and felt more solid and sure.

I also could't believe how quiet these things were. The V10 was nearly silent while the PSD had a nice, non-intrusive roar that I'd almost call pleasant.

The only down side is the dealer thinks it will take longer for a custom-ordered PSD to arrive. I think I'll go for it anyway.

BTW...The V10 doesn't have a distributor cap or plug wires.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

Not a personal attack...

Occasional towing, $4000 buys alot of gas and oil.

An Excursion with a PSD is like a Hummer in downtown Chicago. Rarely used for what is was made for. Just another badge for the yuppies to wear in thier suburban commutes.

I respect a man getting the most out of a lesser powered vehicle, than one just driving a showboat.

V-10man..Is that why these gassers are so quiet..less parts?

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

I ordered an Excursion Limited PSD with everything last May. The dealer said he had 10 allocated and mine was #2. It was going to be $1,200 over invoice. They did not go into production until first week of September and I kept calling him once a month. I did not know about the call-in line then. Finally I talked to him week of 11-20-99 and he said he had no idea when it would come and might be next spring.

After calling Ford and getting the names and numbers of the Dealers within 2 hours of my home, I got on the phone here in Virginia and found MANY PSD's within 15 calls. Two of which were exactly what I wanted even down to the color of the outside and inside, except they were XLT's that were loaded including leather. I ended up with one of these. The only thing I didn't get that I would have gotten if I had held out for the limited was the wood trim inside and aluminum wheels. I didn't mind not having those two items everything was already on the truck. I notice they are taking XLT's and loading them to limiteds. Why they just don't order a limited I don't know, but there are a lot of loaded XLT's out there.

The dealers who did not have any were quick to tell me PSD's were not available yet or were impossible to find or were selling for over the sticker.

Well that was bull. My trucks sticker price was $44,780 I paid $41,500 which was $2500 over invoice. I drove it home that night from a dealer 30 minutes from me. I did not mind paying $1300 more than the deal with my dealer since God only knew when he would actually sell me one.

So if you don't want to wait, get on the phone and you can get what you want today.

BTW, it's my first diesel and it runs smooth as silk with no problems with 18.3 on the mileage. I drove the gas too and it did not seem to accelarate any better than the diesel.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

I noticed the same thing about being able to find loaded XLT's but no Limiteds. Unfortunately, since I couldn't find a combo that "did it" for me, I decided to place an order and wait it out.

Re: Would you bail on PSD for a V10 today?

Daddy Dog:
That was a wise move. The dealer who took the order probably didn't have allotment, or sold yours, or realized he could make a lot more money selling it elsewhere. You made a wise decision by shopping and especially being fortunate enough to find one almost like you wanted.
