Would you purchase a 2003 EX with a 6.0L?

I have found an Ex but...It is a 2003 with a 6.0! Are there any 2003 with the 6.0 that you would consider purchasing? This is a dark green EB with quad captains, DVD, 4X4, 34k miles, asking $33K. Would you look at the engine build date, latest PCM flash etc?

Re: Would you purchase a 2003 EX with a 6.0L?

I have a March build with 70,000 + miles and no problems. Check the build date and if after April 15th you have new injectors and all should be well.

Re: Would you purchase a 2003 EX with a 6.0L?

Since my 03 was bought back, no, I wouldn't buy one. The later 03 motors, like my truck, had the updated injectors. And those seem pretty good. But the true 04 motor, which no 03's have, has something like 200 changes from the 03 motor. Doesn't give you that warm fuzzy about the old motor, does it?

This will get me in trouble, but . . .

I wouldn't touch an '03 6.0 with a 10 foot pole.

Sorry, it's just how I feel.

Re: Would you purchase a 2003 EX with a 6.0L?

When we were looking for one all the '03's were buybacks, most of them anyway so watch out for that!

By the way, we ended up with an '03 that had the good old 7.3 in it.

I don't know what in the blazes you are talking about, but you illustrate my point. The '03s are like Jekyl and Hyde. The ones that run good, run very good. The ones that run bad, run very bad.

The problem is, you can't tell the difference until after you bring it home and live with it for a while.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones since my 2003 6.0 PSD runs great.

Re: Would you purchase a 2003 EX with a 6.0L?

I have an 03/03 XLT Ex. Bought it used w/17k miles on it. Not one problem, it has just over 25k now. Love it, best rig I've had. Wouldn't trade it and reccomend them to everyone. My brother has a 7.3 Ex. with Banks power pack, mine is stock and keeps up! His isn't lifted and has 285's, mine has a 4" with 315 BFG mud terrains.

I must disagree with the "extreme" statement (either Jekyl or Hyde). My 03 X w/6.0 had two injectors replaced in the first 10k miles under warranty. The only problems I've had to pay for are replacing the serpentine belt 500 miles ago and the alternator 7000k miles ago. Not bad, but not perfect either.

The truck currently has 53k on it and is running great. Just don't think it's fair to say that folks are either going to get a great one or a horrible one...lots of gray in the middle!
