I got stuck last night and had to get towed into Able Ford service in Rockville Center N.Y..The X showed signs of gelling but there was no smoke, then stall restart 10 min's later and stall again. So I was able to get through to AAA who banged me for $13 for one mile over the three mile limit ,since I could not get through to Ford's roadside call center they said to submit the bill, gave me a rental and sent me on my way.Today the X was ready, they replace three glowplugs which they said were open, the cps which has me confused ,and remove allot of ice from the screen in front of thr fuel pump which is probebly why I was not getting any smoke. The last 10 gallons of fuel I bought was tainted with water ,and I had additve in the tank. The folks at the dealership were great and made a but Xpiriance a whole lot better. Glad to hear your up and running again. My money would be on the CPS, but who knows. There doesn't seem to be room for "alot of ice" in the screen before the fuel pump, but who knows.
Regards,
Dave

We had a CPS go out on the 2000 X. Thanks to the knowledge picked up on this site, we told the dealer's service guy what it was, he scratched his head and said "Yeah, you're probably right".
I just replaced the CPS, or I should say the dealer replaced it, just last week. I did have a one day heads-up. The wife called and said it was running rough for just a few seconds. She made it home ok. I took it down the road and blew the soot out of it and it ran fine. The next day I took it to get washed, ran it accross the street to the grocery store. I went in a picked up a few items. Got in it and tried to get out of the parking lot. It stalled, ran and then stalled again. I dead sticked it in to a parking spot and that was where it spent the night. Ford Roadside Assistance got it the next morning and took it to the dealer. CPS was shorted is what was indicated in my paperwork.
Did the repair under the ESP, paid the $50 and we were on our way. The buggy has 72,000 miles on it now. No problems since.
