E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I'm looking into an '08 E350 to purchase new (400 miles) for a SMB conversion. Given that the motor is an '08 and is the detuned van version, are there the same issues with this motor as the truck 6.0's of the past years?
I heard they are more stable now with the revised tuning. Most guys that haul heavy that I know get the egr delete "package" which voids the warranty and is illegal in some areas , but they seem to have no overboost issues as the earlier ones , so they tell me . Fuel quality is he most important thing on the 6.0

Also, I would plan on doing a FS-2500 or Amsoil bypass system. And since I used to having to find Ultra Low (2009 Jetta TDI), the fuel shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Its the lubricicity of the fuel that is important , the injectors are still HUEI , so they can get damaged easily with crap fuel . Most guys add an additive like Staynadyne or synthetic 2 stroke oil or Power Service or what ever just as insurance . Also regular fuel fitler service is important.

I'd get moving on that van order. SMB West has announced after November 20th that Ford will no longer take orders for van's with the diesel. The diesel will no longer be an option from what SMB has been told by Ford.
I may have to get a Chevy van with the Duramax when it's time to replace my Sportsmobile.
Seems to me Ford is probably just phasing out the 6.0 completely and doesn't have a diesel that'll fit in the vans. Just look how that 6.0 is shoe horned in the vans now!!!! Who knows, maybe they'll re-introduce one in the future if they come up with a smaller displacement diesel w/ enough HP and torque.
In regards to overboost...I've noticed boost as high as 35PSI on occasion in my van when towing a trailer.

No sweat, I've got the Diesel lined up through a dealer for much less than SMB can get one for (since it's a new '08). I did have the discussion of time constraints with SMB though, and was told similar information about the future of diesels in the van.
i d hope by a 2008 model the early problems of the 6.0 have been corrected.
i suffered all thru my 04 e350 ownership with egr, egr cooler, and turbo problems, then suffered at the end trying to sell it. resale value was 8k less than other van s previously owned..
i wonder how much support you ll get from ford given the ford/navistar relationship is all but over.

also if you buy this Van budget $600-$700 to have your fuel tank repaired. They are still putting in tanks that delaminate & mess up your fuel system. (I own a 2008 e-350 & had to do this ) You will see metal flakes in your fuel filter & if you wait too long they can waste your injectors. O yea, ford plays dumb about this & would certainly blame the fuel you use.
The problems I have had arnt that bad at 41,000 miles. The first 1500 I had a check engine light due to a bad solder in the fuel injection wiring harness (not surprised its made in mexico) this problem has hard for the dealer to find & they butchered a lot of things in the process & didnt put back important bolts/fastners. O well
I bought the 200,000 mile warranty & kind of wonder if they will honor it when its time.
