1990 e350 overdrive light blinking

When towing to the race track this morning I noticed the overdrive light flashing after locking the trans in 2nd to get up a steep grade. Surely the blinking means something is wrong. Is there a specific thing? All the advice I've found thus far is to pull codes, but I don't think my 1990 7.3 IDI is that fancy.

If the light just means that overdrive doesn't work ... that's not the end of the world, since my ambulance almost exclusively tows.

The ambulance also spit out the alternator and power steering belt, luckily when I got close to my destination. No alternator belt means no power brakes, which means 2 feet required to stop the behemoth. The belts were lost after the blinking started, but I guess it could be related. I put new belts on in the dark and cold tonight. At least it wasn't raining

help?

E4OD is computer controlled and if the OD light is flashing then it means there is probably a trouble code set. Your truck is OBD I and if you have an OBD I scanner it will give you the codes. If you don't have a scanner you can get the codes with an ANALOG volt meter. Just follow the directions in the link:

Then again it could be the wire that is in the shaft... at the end it likes to break. I know that I had that fun a few years ago on my 2000 E350.

Just a thought.
