E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
Just been on a 1400 mile vacation trip around in Norway. AC on at all times, numerous mountain passes, never over 65 mph (traffic). Normal load with wife and two kids. Several trips from campsite to town and amusement parks.
1,3 liters/10 kms works out to 18,09 mpg.
1990 E-250 XLT Club Wagon all stock, E4OD, 3.54 rear, 77.000 miles
Most diesels here are Customlines and other custom cargo vans with misc. seating arrangements, they are 350s.
Mine is a 250 XLT. Nothing special, but load capacity is approx. 1100 lbs lower than for the 350, but that is hardly a problem for a family van. (5-8 seats).
Went on another longish trip a couple of days ago (1000 miles), on the first leg the mileage was 1,19 l/10 km. Haven't filled since the return, but that is probably in the same range.
Did you ship your van to Norway? I was just in Bavaria, and it was wonderful. Great bier, no cops, thunderstorms. We are wondering about sending our E-350 over there...
If you ever look at the Ford specs for the E-350 Clubwagon regular body length like I did tonite, would every one agree that our american clubwagons are actually E-250HD vans with an E-350 badge? 8600# GVWR......super clubwagon 9600# GVWR, a real E-350 1 ton van!
my E-350 cargo van is 9600# GVWR
Maybe in Europe Ford calls them what they are, an E-250....any comments?

The E350 Club Wagon is an actual E350 not and E250HD. What is going on is that Ford figures the E350 Club Wagon is mostly for passanger use and so it uses a lighter spring package than does the E350 Cargo Van. This is a good thing because it allows for a much improved ride. The E350 Super ClubWagon uses the E350 Cargo Van spring package because of the extra weight that is created by the body extension and the additional passangers. You can special order the heavier E350 Van Springs on the E350 Wagon but why would you want to? It would just ride stiffer and it does not realy provide for any improvment in stability, unless of course you haul heavy cargo. The front springs and the front stabalizer bar are both unique peices to the E350 with the diesel regardless of which rear spring package you have. Also, another note: All E350 Club Wagaons come with LT225/75R16 Except those with the diesel which have LT245/75R16. The larger tire is due to the added wt of the diesel, which is also why it is used on the 9600lb GVW vans.
The E250HD is a lighter frame with lighter axle components and different braking system.

My E-250 was sold new by the local Ford dealer in 1990. I purchased it from them as a trade in in 1998. During the early 1990s, Ford only imported vans, during the last few years a few independent importers have shown up.
We have to put a dividing wall in the thing about 5' from the rear to have it licensed as a combi vehicle for cargo and personnel; saves 80% of the otherwise USD 90.000 import duties on a new PSD club wagon.
