E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I have a couple of questions regarding a new downpipe for for 97' van.
I talked to ITP Diesel and they can provide a 3.5" or 4" downpipe BUT, the downpipe is for a 1998 - 2003 7.3 PSD van. My question(s) is what is the difference between the 1997 and the 1998 7.3 PSD vans? I want to get a larger downpipe, with a pyrometer bung, but I can't find a manufacture that willl say their downpipe will fit a 97'. Do any of you know a manufacture that can provide this downpipe? ( Diamond Eye can't do it )
Any help I can get on this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The Turbo's are slightly different I beleive, I don't see why they would not fit. I have a spare stock one if you are interested. You could always modify it.

Do you have a downpipe on your van? Do you know what size the stock one is? I've noticed that my 97 van doesn't have the pancake style that the trucks came with. Nick

More to come but I won't bore you with that crap till its done.
The ones I have I believe are 3.5 in. They are all stock . I have a new unused one and 2 others . All 7.3 Vans have similar downpipes from the factory.

So is there much of a benefit going from a stock 3.5 to a 4 inch downpipe? Or bigger?

I don't know . I think Intake mods and what happens after the Turbo are more important and more " bang for the buck" than a bigger down pipe. Injectors also affect this, in my understanding since our engines control boost by electronically defueling the injectors . What I mean is , the bigger fuel flow you inject , the more heat you make , the faster the heat needs to dissapear . . .
