E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I've got a totally stock E350SD cargo - no seats except driver/passenger, no carpet/headliner, etc. I was pulling an 18' open trailer that loaded weighed less than 5K - no problems there. I've upgraded to a 32' enclosed tri-axle. Empty weight is ~6500lbs (PO's statement, it has not been on a scale). I expect that loaded, it will be ~9500 lbs, assuming PO is correct. With the open trailer, I was storing stuff inside the van, but with the enclosed, I expect I'll have almost nothing in the van. Of course I have load range E on all 4 corners (and the trailer as matter of fact).
I'd like to load the trailer up and take it to the scales to see how it loads out. What numbers should I shoot for? I know its bad, but I don't know what rear axle ratio I have. While the GVWR for the trailer is 15K, I know I can't go over 10K with the Ford hitch. I'm using a Reese trunnion WD setup, but haven't added any sway control yet. I'll probably do the dual cam, but I haven't had it on the highway yet to see how she feels without it.
I think what I'm looking for is GVWR, GCWR, and rear GAWR - I thought I had a pdf with that info, but I can't find it. Any target numbers to shoot for would be helpful. Thanks!
What does the door/pillar sticker say under axle code? The sticker will show the GVWR and the FAWR and the RAWR. Is this a regular body (RB) or an extended body (EB)?
and just to broaden this topic a little... now that i'm pulling a big'un, i'm considering adding guages - specifically EGT and trans temp. i'd prefer not to use an a-pillar pod, but will if that's the easiest way of mounting them. does anyone sell a package of gauges and mounting stuff for the van?
missed the question earlier. don't know if its a RB or EB - its got the two doors on the side (not a slider) just like the rear doors. I didn't realize the GAWR was on the door sticker as well. Thanks!

4.10s = 20,000 GCWR, so minus your empty van, you can tow just about 14,000
3.55 = 16,000 GCWR ~ 10,000 pounds
I bought my 14k hitch from Hidden Hitch. I tow a 14,000# weekend Warrior (extra long FSW - 41'). My van is an extended moddel, adn it handles the trailer very well. I'm actually over the factory GCWR since I tow that much with a passengers and gear on the roof. My running weight is actually 24,000 combined.
