E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
I have read all the posts...but really need the best and final answer if there is one and there should be real soon.
What is new for the E-350 in 2004? Will it have a new body looks space size seating???
Yes I would love the new PSD 6.0 and a 5 speed but I can't wait for ever. Rather than order a 2003 I will hold out for an '04 if there is significant positive change.
HELP I need to know because I have to make a decision soon
All you'll get is opinions and rumors. Only definte thing you can do is to wait and see it when it comes out in a couple months.

Despite the difference in displacement, the 6.0L diesel is a physically larger engine than the 7.3L and the rocker boxes on the 6.0L are both too high and too wide to fit in the E-350's engine bay. The 6.0's transmission housing is also much larger than the one used by the 7.3L. And if you remember, the 7.3L was so big that they couldn't fit in its intercooler and had to resort to de-tuning it just to get it to fit into the E-350. So without some modifications to the front end of the E-350 the 6.0 won't fit. I've yet to see any spy photos of a re-designed front end on the Ford cargo van, but that's not to say it doesn't exist.
The latest word, according to "Full_size_van" over on the BlueOval forum, is that the 6.0L will not meet '07 Model Year emission standards and the E series vans will be discontinued in that year to be replaced by Ford Europe's Transit vans. If this is the case, you have to wonder if Ford will go through the exercise of modifying the E-350 so as to squeeze in the 6.0L if it's for only a three year run.
Then again I've heard Ford has discontinued production on the 7.3L diesels altogether in favor of the 6.0L, so unless they do modifications to enlarge the engine bay that leaves them without a diesel for the E-350 and that can't be right either.
So right now it is a confusing situation. If anyone has the straight scoop please let us know.
Some good points bob. I believe though by 2007 they could possibly have newer diesel technology. By 2010 it won't even be legal go outside and breathe with the present laws. Only time will tell though...
Maybe these vans will be classics before we really want them to be,
My bosses son says his dad ordered a E450 with a 6.0 they are suppose to have a brochure with a picture of one at the office but he couldn't find it. He claims that they are wider than the E350's. I've seen vans that they have widened for ambulances and shuttle busses but I've never looked close enough to tell if they widened the distance between the frame rails and or the dog house. I've done some looking and I can't find where even the E550's are wider.
Talk about Euro, the Sprinter vans with the Freightliner name are just Mercedes vans with their 5 cylinder diesels. It's rumored that they will be showing up on dodge lots around the end of the year, they defiantly have the Euro look. Freightliner claims that they have 800,000 documented miles on package service vehicles used by UPS and FedEx in Europe. OK for a service or delivery van but I don't know if I want to pull a boat to haul my family around in one.
