4EOD ATF capasity

Hi,
my book says that the 4EOD tranny takes abt. 16 qts ATF, is that correct?
Might change to synthetic soon, -never drained any automatics before and got a bit surprised by the high volume on this one...

-Ray.

Re: 4EOD ATF capasity

Sounds about right,

I just changed mine and drained the converter as well. I used a case and then some to fill it back up, I guess it was 14 to 16 quarts. I used an old Igloo beverage ice chest to drain mine in, they are relatively low and large enough to catch everything. You will need some oil dry though, I always seem to dump a quart or so somewhere in the process. I also pulled the cooler lines loose and blew them out, made a heck of a mess but feel good that I changed almost all the fluid. Went back with regular Dexron ATF, figured this tranny will need a rebuild someday soon (200K plus, you tell me?) so why waste the high dollar synthetic.

Dexron ATF

I did not realize that our E4OD trannys are GM. My manual states that the E4OD takes Mercon transmission fluid.

Re: 4EOD ATF capasity

Yes, GM Dexron, Ford Mercon, same thing. Read the bottle the next time and you will see. You are thinking of back in the old days when they used type F.
