7.3 Fuel Pump

I've got a '95 E-350 w/PSD. My fuel lift pump just went out for the second time in three years. I need to know if I can run an electric pump in line before lift pump for an emergency/back-up so when this new one goes bad again, I can flip the switch to turn on the elec. one just to get me home instead of being stuck on the road.
thanks in advance, Anthony

Re: 7.3 Fuel Pump

I don't think so. Your stock pump fills up the canister with low pressure. Then the canister feeds the pump which then feeds the engine with higher pressure.. If you run and electric pump, it would be too much for the canister. I have a brand new lift pump I never put on. Don't know if it is like yours. I also have canister completely cleaned, looks like brand new.

Re: 7.3 Fuel Pump

There are different pressure ranges of electric pumps. It's pretty common on an IDI to bypass the factory pump and just use a low pressure electric one.
