E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
We have a 99 SD ext E350 diesel and have an AC question. We have been in time and time again because the AC does not cool very well. THis is acknowledged but because its all working they are saying it is just undersized. The air blows at 40 after a little while and its HOT here in GA!! Anyone have any words of wisdom? Its even hotter filled with gear and people!! Runs about 80 when its 85+ outside if its full of bodies. I need to know VERY quickly as we have a trip to do--and we are almost out of warranty!!
Thanks, bobzsem
First off a BIG WELCOME . It sounds like your A/C is working alright and you didn't say but with the extended, I'm sure you probably have a window van and that is why there is a second A/C option to try and cool this large oven during the summer. There are only two things I could think of and that is to use limo tint(or good shades on the sun side) on all the windows behind the driver/passenger and maybe install a couple of the small fans to try and circulate the air towards the rear of the interior and keep it mixed up and moving. Maybe someone else can give you some better tips, but those are the only two I can think of right off hand.
I have a picture of the fan I have in the back of my van in my pictures at the end of my signature and it is in the album titled "finished interior" as I remember.

bobzsem,Welcome!
I second Larry's opinion in that you probably needed the optional rear a/c for this van.
His ideas are the only ones I can think of other than investing in the bigger a/c unit.
You could also read this thread and try out the mod on your van if you are mechanically inclined. http://forums.ford-diesel.com/ubbthr...art=1&vc=1
I didn't try it as I have a std. length van and have a partition divider behind my front seats so this helps to keep the cold air up front.
I have rear ac along with ceiling vents the length of the van.. basic 15 pass airport limo.. xlt int package.. last year we had the system recharged (ford dealer found an O ring leak on the third trip in, after re-charging it was better) and it seemd better for a while.. now vent temp is is about 55-60 when its hot out (goes down to 40 when the sun is not shining, had it running at 40 last year in the sun. They ran dye, topped off the system, the say all the pressures are where they should be, cooling system temp never varies (not overheating or getting any warmer with max ac on) all the windows on the van behind the drivers are heavy tinted/ mirrored glass.
