E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
To prevent compressor surging from the chip, I installed the ATS ported compressor housing which has a 4'' inlet as opposed to the 3" factory. With that out of the way, getting the 4" intake to mate was a snap. I don't own a welder or the ability to operate one so, I took my van into this place Silicone Hose, Silicone Hoses, Turbo Hose, Turbo Hoses, Intercooler Hose, Intercooler Hoses, T-bolt Clamps and had them do the fab. It was a fairly simple process for them, nothing more than one mandrel bend in the 4" aluminum towards the front near the velocity stack and a silicone 90 at the turbo. I suppose I could've done something myself but I insist on the upmost of quality.

As a follow up (still in the planning stages), I'm looking at the original air box. I currently have two K&N's that cost about $40 each and hate to dispose of them, and then buy a cone or two cones at the same price or more.
I think that I can turn the OEM air box over, do away with the lower half (now on top), and fabricate a rectangular brace/bracket/ box to hold the two K&N's in place. Then, cut out the trapezoid portion of the hood, directly over the filters, and place a backwards facing scoop. Yeah; I think that's a plan!
A small metal bracket comes off an existing hole, directly above the filter and along where the weather stripping goes, and straps in underneath the metal hose clamp that holds the filter on the intake.

I don't think you need the filterminder deal though. Will you be fabbing a scoop for the hood or does it all fit under the original ?
Thanks! LOL Yeah I had installed for kicks, nice little touch i thought... And it does fit under the stock hood quite nicely. The welder and I talked about fabbing up a cold air box around it too in the future; all in time. (and money)

Thanks! Mission accomplished! The filter is from these guys Silicone Hose, Silicone Hoses, Turbo Hose, Turbo Hoses, Intercooler Hose, Intercooler Hoses, T-bolt Clamps, they even have a bigger one but it won't fit under the hood. And to be completely honest I did question its smaller size at first, compared to AFE's and such, but I've ran it open without the filter around the neighborhood and noticed no difference. The end opening must be the difference. Either way though, I'm more than happy with the work they've done.

I take it you checked out other (maybe, more common) filter brands? What was the reason for going with that supplier? Does it happen to be compatible with other filters of that style (like for F-series or something)?
And how's the performance compared to your prior stock setup?

It was the house filter at Turbo Hoses which they designed and it's more than proven itself on all of their projects.

It'll fit and any round pipe with the proper diameter and clearance around it.

I installed an ATS housing, 4" exhaust and the intake in one big swoop so I never got to exclusively test the intake. With those three mods though the difference was very noticeable.

Will the "Inlet pipe" & "Filter" to the turbo be an "Off the Shelf" item in the near future?
Have you any idea on cost?
Great looking setup....I LIKE IT!!!

Yeah I'm not worried about it. Other than the filter media on the end cap, it's just a standard cone filter. I'm sure I could find an even larger filter that'll fit but this is the one they had and I'm pleased with it's design and performance.

Filter $60
Silicone 90 $125
velocity stack $120
Then add in the aluminum piping and labor rate around $120/hr to make it all fit. I was out the door for a pretty penny but with one simple *****in set up. I'll probably sell it one day since I plan on going with a whole new twin turbo intercooled set up; but that's a few years away.
Check out the welds, Christian did these and the others you see on their site.

k&n makes a cold air intake for the e vans with a v10 (77-2570) ... it bolts to the firewall and front grill area ... i think im gonna get one of these and mod the intake tube to fit to the 7.3's turbo ???
heres a few pics ... this is of the v10 set up
im going to try to find the ford "intake scoop" (for lack of the correct term ?) that comes on the v10 and use it on my 7.3
i like how the unit contours and seams to seal to the underside of the hood ... keeping a true cold air intake is important
and then just work with some 4 inch tube and try to limit the bends to small angles... i will need to accomodate the sensor, but that shouldnt be a problem... just relocate it near where it was with the stock intake ??? i think ?
only thing i can see so far is that the rad might be different ?
anyone know where to get that ford air scoop thang ? ha ha .... i bet the dealer wants an arm and a leg ?
