alternator wiring q

my alternator has a white with a black stripe wire that goes to the 8 wire connector . The white/black wire stops at it's side of the connector and doesn't continue through the other half of the connector. The other half of the connector goes to the gps and other stuff. Is the white and black wire a ground? If not, what is it?
any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: alternator wiring q

Could it be for a gauge that is not installed on your van?

Voltmeter?

Ammeter?

Re: alternator wiring q

hmm, didn't think about that. It has a factory ammeter that I'm going to replace, but no voltmeter.

The white/black I believe is for a choke heater/choke solenoid 5.8 or VIP connector on a 4.9 motor, we have niether..

Re: alternator wiring q

so you're saying that it is possibly stock/bulk factory wire that goes to something my van doesn't have? Just trying to clarify, that's all. Do I need it all then?
