Talking Another EvilBay diesel van buy!

..... Evilbay strikes again!!!

Well, it's a POS.... since it was assigned to paint out graffiti around the local city. Inside is trashed, seats splotched w/ paint. But it's a diesel.

It's actually a "twin" to my 1990 van in my signature. Both van pools bought 2nd hand from another city. Listed w/ 255,000 miles. It had some brake issues (peddle goes all the way to the floor), but it should be minor to fix. I'm going to use it as the beater van (slight sliding door damage, but it still opens, closes). Yank out most of the rear seats and I can haul stuff. Rug is nearly white.... glass looks okay.

Tires are okay, about 60% left (or better). I guess I can always yank the engine out and put it into a F250 or F350 that usually pops up being advertised needing a motor. I saw three this year alone.... And since the van has a E4OD, I could 'refit' an older truck (say if it was a two wheel drive C6). Or just sell it. Choices, choices.

Final bid was $510.00 (in addition the document fee the state surplus agency charges)....and sales tax. So I'm looking at just under $700.... by the time it's transferred (if I figured right).

Now, the only issue is where to hide it...... or else I might get killed if it's discovered.

(And both tanks had at the time I checked, at about a half tank of fuel....)

Sounds like a great buy. Looks like a good city driver, as people with "nice" cars, give "ugly" (and by ugly, I mean has character) vehicles more space on the road. Excellent hauler too.

Drove it down the freeway at 70-75MPH. Smooth, steering is touchy. There is a small fuel leak. Not sure where it's from. Engine was dusty/"sooty" before, from the vaporized fuel and dust. Needs a good cleaning.... But I didn't have the time to open the engine bay up from the inside. Will have to take a look one of these days. Took off oil cap after it was nice and warm - hot- nothing coming out of there.

Went and played in the 'mud' near a wet field. Limited slip is nice. Granted, the tires have good tread.

A/C is okay, once I put a can of that Freeze 12 in. Took a can fast. Might benefit from another.

We've had some weather below 30F here. Few nights it hit mid 20's and so far, this old junker fires right up. Cranks over for about 15 seconds (but it normally does that for the first start of the day) and then fires right up.

Still yet to open up the bonnet to look under at the engine. Has a small fuel leak still....
