E-Series VansTechnical discussion of topics related to vans powered by any of the Navistar engines. This covers a broad number of years, but there isn't enough demand to split it any further.
Well, last week I received a notice that there is another recall notice for my 1999. Something brake related..... Anyone else get this letter? (I don't have the letter in front of me, so that's as specific as I can get right now...)

Ford cannot be confident that over many years in service, a speed control deactivation switch installed on your vehicle will not leak brake fluid, posing the risk of a fire. This condition may occur either when the vehicle is parked or when it is being operated.

I got the recall notice as well.
I wonder how many had to catch fire to justify a recall??
funny quote"until you have the recall service performed, park your vehicle outdoors away from structures to prevent a potential fire from spreading"

The fix is a harness that's inserted between the switch in question and it's normal connector. The harness has a fuse in it to cut power in the event of a problem. Some of the guys have reported having it done in the parking lot by the dealer tech, so depending on the dealer, it may not be a big ordeal, timewise.
They also inspect the switch and replace it if it's leaking, along with the harness install. That may take a little longer.
Depending on how hard it is to get to, the vans may take more time than the pickups.

Yup, a friend's dad had two F250's (a 1995 and 1999) that got the recall. I took a gander at the said "fix". Saw the tag and says not to replace the fuses if it blows but to install some a replacement (under a Ford part number).

You can just unhook the switch too, no fire hazard then! Especially if you don't use cruise control that often. From what I understood it was a redundant sensor to tell if the brakes had been pushed to tell the cruise control to disengage.
yea I am going to bring in my 02 diesel van in tomorrow morning. I agree about the whole kabuki dance of dealing with the dealers (I hate the bastards!) I was thinking the same thing either leave it alone or DIY. But I was told this is a quick & easy one. I suppose these monkeys can still somehow mess this up.

....well, if they break off the sensor off the master cylinder while trying to unplug the harness.... . I noticed that on my 99, the sensor/harness comes up from below. On the F250, it is mounted from the top......
