A/C fan switch problems

Gotta problem with my switches...A few months ago my rear a/c would only blow on Hi fan setting. It wouldn't work on the lower settings. Then the following week it didn't blow at all at any setting. It's alright, I can live with no rear a/c, the guys in the back will just have to suffer.hehehehehe. But this morning the front switch did the same, only blows on high. It won't blow on lower settings. Could it be the switches itself or are there relays in front of the drivers side battery for the fan or could it be something else. If anyone knows or had this problem before I could use the help before it completely goes.

Re: A/C fan switch problems

Hmm... I've had one of my switches go bad so it wouldn't blow on the medium setting.. but that was all.

It seems kinda strange that yours all went bad at the same time, hmm... it could be the switches though.

When i went to get my switch replaced the guy pulled one off the shelf and it was built incorrectly, then he grabbed another.. and another and they were all messed up too. He had to find an old one way in the back to find a good one. I guess they had a manufactuing flaw in them or something. Maybe yours were just.. halfway faulty and went bad after time, i dunno.

Re: A/C fan switch problems

The switches you are refering to are the main switches on the panel? Don't know if there are any that are hiding...Kind of dumb when it comes to electrical and a/c.

I'm talking about the switches on the front dash that the driver can control for the front and rear air. I think our dashes are the same, 92 and 95.

Re: A/C fan switch problems

Those switches are crap. Cheaply made plastic units that melt inside. I've changed them on my van as well as a few customers vehicles.

Re: A/C fan switch problems

OK, its not the switch. I went to ford, picked up the part, installed it, tried it, wasn't it, returned it, and they took it back. What should I check next? The resistor that's outside the blower motor or is there like a relay somewhere? Thanks

Re: A/C fan switch problems

You have a set of three resistors in the fan house (detachable from outside) front lower right. They also include something looking like a thermal fuse.

You might also apply 12V directly on the fan to make shure it runs as it should.

Re: A/C fan switch problems

Okay, I pulled out the blower resistor housing and found one of the resistors was burnt. Went to ford and picked up another. That should be it. If not then I'll be back. Thanks for all the input.
