compound turbos?

Well I have officially lost my mind! I am going to put a gt4718 behind the engine feeding a gtp38r. (I am copying Charles's setup, not sure if he is on this site). The 47 will run to an intercooler mounted flat under the van (with a scoop) that will feed the 38r. Extensive doghouse modifications will be needed.

I am still in the early planning stages. I picked up a complete 99 engine that will get rebuilt. The AB's that came with it will be converted to hybrids. I think I can make it work and the extended doghouse will make a nice place for my laptop! Headstuds, fuel system, etc.....

Go For It!
I was toying around in the past with mounting the turbo under the van.
With no doghouse modding.

Bill, I was pondering the same with mounting the turbo under the van. Only thing I don't like is the fact that I would need a pump to get the oil back to the engine. Do you have another idea?

It can be done. Have you seen how they mount 2 turbo's in the rear on the late model corvettes. You can run an aux oil system its fine. Maybe even benies of cooler oil to the turbo.

I figure 7K with the liquid intercooler. Dont have the $$$$$$$

Viper collector?

Ya Viper collector. My girls drive them more than I these days. I have seen the Corvette set up and Firebird. Im weary of the fact of having another electronic device to worry about. Man, I have been thinking of the same thing to get rid of all the clutter. But it has to be driveable and an everyday vehicle with no problems. If there is a will there is a way.

I drove by the F..d stealership and glanced at the new vans. I kept on driving. Im with you. It will take a long time for me to adjust to that front. In the meantime I think we will have to think outside the box to make our stuff work.

I don't mind the new front so much.

This is the intercooler I plan on using. I know it's "cheap", but the turbo mustang guys have had good luck with them.
TRV25S Intercooler - TREADSTONE PERFORMANCE

At only 12" wide, it should just fit between the frame and body.

I also plan on using "cheap" xo2 racing wastegates. Again, the mustang guys seem to like them.

I got a new gt4718 for 1525 to my door, and I bought a slightly used 38r today for 1050.

I looked into some liquid coolers. Dont have a link but they were bullit type.
They look just like a muffler.

I looked into air liquid also. The smaller size is a huge benefit, but then you need a heat exchanger, water tank, and pump. And unless there is ice in the tank, it is not as efficient as an air to air. This is what I gathered anyways, but that is not saying much.......

I beg to differ on that statement.
Adds weight. I will say.

Ok, this is getting interesting. New frontiers. Let's keep this thread going. Doing my downpipe this week, sending out for SS 4 inch and then fabing dual exhaust if space alows. Then straight to building headers. I know van will be down for a while but I now will be starting. Then intake and then and then etc.. Have to think outside the box with these boxes.
