Pardon my ignorance here, but how come you guys don't just get the Banks kit for the pickup and fit it to a van. A buddy of mine took his 75 Ford and installed a 99 7.3 turbo diesel in it. Then he bought the complete Banks kit and installed it. He had to do some slight modifications to the tail pipe. The down tube he cut in two places and bent it a little to fit in the doghouse, but I think it could have just been bent a bit, or he could have nmodified the doghouse too. The only other thing that was different was the turbo internals were different. He got a rebuilt Truck turbo and ait all bolted right up.

I'm not trying to diss any of your ideas, I just thought this way would be easier.

If is was only easier this way (banks). It would have been done a very long time ago. Banks actually did one van (7.3). The body was 3 to 4in off the chassis IICR.

Also i would not put anything in my van that had the banks name on it!

Are you talking about that excursion? I want my van to look stock, so that won't work for me.

I have been giving second thoughts to using an a/w intercooler, though. If I can get one inside the extended doghouse, the turbo plumbing would be way easier. I'd still have to find a spot for the heat exchanger, but no matter where it went it should be easy to run the coolant hoses. Hmmm.....

I am not worried about losing space between the seats. I have a steel bulkhead behind the seats and I welded the door shut so someone can't break a window and get to my tools.

I think my 38r showed up today, but I worked late and the office (where the package is) to the condo building was closed!

I'll get a pic of the 38 next to the 47.

Got some pics side by side of the gtp38r and the gt4718. Not sure why the previous owner still has the wastegate actuator attached on the 38. It has a 1.15 nonwastegated housing. I also don't know if the 38r comes with the ebpv delete? Good for me, though. I was going to do it anyways. I will get a non ebpv pedestal for the new engine, and just unplug the one I have for now. Can't wait to get it on. I need a 4" silicone elbow and the turbo to pedestal o rings.

We have a lot of good things to come. Shipped out my downpipe to Warpspeed today. Hope to have it back within a couple of weeks. Hope they will jig up for OBS vans. I will keep all posted as to how all comes along with downpipe and exhaust system. My intention is to run 4 inch SS downpipe into 2 3 inch exhaust pipes exiting at the stock location. All SS exhaust. Let's see what happens. After all is done, I will be on to the SS headers. Will take a lot of pics and download to Web somehow and show progress. There is a big lose in the factory exhaust and especially the up pipes. Too many kinks. Will keep all informed. Think outside the box!!

I use Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket to host pics. Really easy to use.

Can you post a pic of your up pipes? You are saying lots of kinks, maybe the later ones are better? Mine don't look restrictive at all.

What kind of headers do you want to build? Tubular or log style?

Thanks RPM for the link. I will start pic posting as soon as I start the exhaust system from turbo back. Then I will get to the headers and up pipes. We will see how the headers come out. Looks like enough room for sure. They might be a combination of log and tubular but hoping for tubular. Then there will be the up pipe issue. Can't really say how we will tackle it all but it won't be long till we dive in. Shop accross from mine does custom headers and I will make sure we jig up for OBS vans.
I plan on running 4 inch downpipe like yours RPM. You have a lot more room between floorboard and pipe than I do. My downpipe rubs the up pipe and I have about 1 1/4 inch of open area to floorboard so it will be tight. I will take pics so you can see the difference. Gonna be fun to play again.
I sent my Stealth back to Ryan along with a set of injectors he will modify to stage 2's. I had problems with the stealth pump system and Ryan is willing to swap pump for rebuilding injectors. But one thing at a time, don't want to be down too long of periods. I am sure I will hit up you guys for tips on program. I know already that Tony's the man. Anyway, stay tuned.

Got the 38R in!

If there is one thing we have over the f series guys, it is ease of turbo replacement!!

First thing I did was cut the 4" 90 coupler I picked up from Arne's shop. (johncantos) Awesome place and I only saw the showroom. Arne wasn't there , still need to meet him.

The coupler originally had 9" legs. I cut it close to the original elbow size, then put in a 4" pipe and tightened the clamp to the exact spot I needed it cut and ran a utility knife next to the clamp. Worked good.

I removed the stock turbo, it came out with no problem. Here is side by side of the stock and 38r.

Sorry for some of the crappy pics!

As you can see, the high flow outlet on the r is bigger than stock, so it wouldn't mate to my downpipe. I just switched them, and will use the high flow on the compound setup.

Superbad (funny movie) pic of the engine with no turbo. I need to learn how to take better pics or get a new camera or something.

Stuffed the r in there and tightened everything down.

Started it up, and NO LEAKS!! This thing sounds awesome, and I have no idea how much boost I am making. It pegs the 35 psi gauge. Gotta find one that goes to about 75. I didn't pay much attention to the egts, but I am sure they have come down.

Ya, one can take the turbo and downpipe out in less than 1/2 hr. But that is about all we can do fast. Everything else needs small asian girls hands ha ha. I will want to pick your brain when time for intake. Also maybe a better write up on the larger turbo. In the meantime, just gonna do my thing which will be a little different.

rpm1 can you walk me through this dummy style i am not understanding how you did this by the pics are both turbos now mounted? can you explain how to in more detail?are the two turbos bolted together?what parts are removed to do this? what does a 38r come off of? what turbo sits on pedestal stock or the r? i have a non ebpv pedestal now i also have diamond eye 4'' downpipe i have not installled yet, i have a beans f series turbo outlet to replace the small van one which houses the ebpv i also bought an f series flange pressing from diamond eye because i could not see installing a 4'' downpipe choked down at the beginning to accomadate the dinkey van outlet i am going to cut off the small van flange and tig the larger one on?but in am completely lost on how you set up your turbos? but i would like to duplicate if you can walk me through.
THANKS,wade
