Nope, just one turbo right now. The GTP38R is a drop in ball bearing replacement for 7.3 powerstrokes. TurboByGarrett.com - Ford PowerStroke

All I did yesterday was remove the stock turbo and replace it with the gtp38r.

I don't think so. I think you would need 99.5+ manifolds, uppipes, collector and pedestal. Unless you are going to redo all that stuff anyways, you would only need the pedestal. Mine will be for sale shortly as I want to get an ebpv delete pedestal.

Ah heck, I would need a turbo also. I will wait and do one step at a time. Your turbo seems used? Iam not thrilled about spending $2500 on a new one. Would like to get used if possible. What vehicle ran this turbo?
Called Warpspeed today and they didn't get my downpipe yet, the had a blizzerd and no UPS or mail. Hopefully tomorrow and they can get on it next week. When I get it back then full speed forward. Right now van is sitting on driveway doing nothing. I will take pics and such when putting together. Not too many will read, but that's ok. They all think this is a compound turbo thread. Their loss.

This has been a great thread and I've enjoyed it very much. I've already bookmarked the warpspeed page for future reference.

Dann-the GTP38R never came on a vehicle from the factory. You will either have to buy one new from a garrett dealer or find one used from some one who is either going bigger or back to stock. Best price I have found new is 1750 shipped. Keep an eye on the classifieds on the diesel forums, they pop up used quite a bit.

They certainly advertise a big gain in HP and Torque. Do you really feel that much seat of the pants with this turbo? Quite interesting.

The weather here has sucked since I got it in. Just got 8" of snow last night and this morning. When it was dry right after I installed it, the 80e setting seems only a little better than the stock turbo. But it really wakes up the 120race setting. And it sounds awesome as well!

The 38r will be a bit laggy on the bottom and make more on the top.

I have a 99 engine that is going to get rebuilt with headstuds and and upgraded valve train. I was going to try to get the short block to the machine shop today, but with the weather I don't think it is going to happen. No more mods to the pmr engine that is in the van now.

About the trans....I know everybody says go BTS. I am sure it is a GREAT trans, but I am not going to spend that kind of dough.

Here is a copy of an email I got from RacerX a few weeks ago.

Ryan,

Here is your quote for an extreme duty rebuild and upgrade kit.
(1) 500 rwhp extreme rebuild kit with shaft kit. The kit upgrades and makes a transmission new rather than rebuilt. Full replacement parts kits replace every moving surface. Kit includes, all upgrade extreme duty hard parts, (Armour package) All new replacement wearable internal parts, pan and line filters, assy lube, install sheets, tech support, approximately 140 new parts in all including adding all extra red eagle clutches in all gears. All parts needed for pump rebuild and includes a tugger shift kit. $1598.00 Shipping weight is approx 75lbs.
Adding the torque converter would be $2193 in total for 500 hp. Thanks for your inquiry and please let us know if we can help with your power play.

Unless someone advises different, this is probably the route I am going to go.

I did end up making it to the machine shop today. I had figured I was going to need 1 sleeve, but I need 3.

Here is the cost breakdown for the machine work

Clean V8 diesel block 63.70
Magnaflux and mic block 95.55
Resurface block 191.11
Bore and hone 200.14
Install cam bearings 61.48
Final clean block 127.38
Magnaflux crank 31.80
Polish crank 89.18
Mic and hone rods 63.60
R&R bushings/pin fit rods 80.00
3 sleeves 300.00
Assembly 300.00

TOTAL-1634.07

I'll buy the rebuild kit once I am sure he can use all standard bearings. It's going to go .030 over.

So I should be into a fresh forged rod shortblock for about 25-2600.

What RacerX's rebuild kit. Are you going to assemble it yourself?
