Converting econoline to 6 wheeler

Hi,

I am converting my E-350 6.9 Diesel to 6-wheeler by adding second rear axle(behind original). Reason for this is that I already converted this vehicle to motorhome and now it looks kinda stupid when cab is "hanging" 10 feet over rear axle. Idea is to cut piece of frame with axle from similar E350 and weld it as extension to original frame. So I would like to know if anyone has added tandem axle to econoline before? Any pics? And also are there 6 wheel abs/tracs systems that work with 12 volts?

there are sme recent photos on here of one, dunno what kind of axles it had in it either. it as up on the artic but they all drove and everything. Problem you might have is if you get into steep enough areas ( some camp grounds ive ran into with my minni winnie) is that the angles are too steep to have a spare axle. if its not driving and you put your drive axle n the middle you will hang up and wont be able to drive.

chevy tandem pictures by terkaa - Photobucket

Here is what I had in mind... It is a chevy unfortunately but you can see the construction. This is made by motorhome manufacturer. It has rear leaf spring attched to front leaf u-bolts. Rotating joint from rear leaf center to frame and rear axle at the end of rear leaf. This way front axle transfers added weight to rear and pushes it down. Also in steep areas reversing rear axle tends to push up and transfers weight to front axle and pushes it down. Quite clever
