Interesting, still no info on the spline count, the only way to know is to pull the axle and count 'em? Or can you see them pulling the diff cover? I could have sworn it was a full float.

Well heck, I guess I need to figure out just what I was smoking and get some more. 95% confident and 100% wrong. It is a semi-float.
My personal situation - I may not always be right but I am ALWAYS certain.

Here is a link that may help some folks, but still doesn't cover my BOM: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3489/...8428bc20e5.jpg
It also does not appear to have info on spline count. For the amount of time I've spent searching I could have probably pulled an axle and counted by now.

It's a dana axle and they changed from a full float to a semi float in early 2001 since my Aug built 2001 has the semi float dana 60. If you're interested, just call dana and give then the tag info and they can tell your spline count, etc.
My 78 E-250 had a dana full float and IIRC it was a 44 and always like the design and safety margin, but after about 20 years I developed an issue with keeping the axle end sealed to the hub, even with new metal washers. But I never used new axle bolts so it was probably my problem and nothing with the actual axle or it's design.
I actually questioned the FORD engineers that attended the 2002 TDS/FD ralley at Lake George, NY on the change from using a full float to a semi float and their answer was had I ever heard of or read of an actual problem with a wheel on a semi float falling off on a dana axle that hadn't been severly overloaded. They were right there has been none to my knowledge.
