Re: Drilling holes to fit 2003 E series mirrors on a 1995 E-350
Force the mirror studs through a piece of cardboard, trim the holes and use it as a template for the new holes.

Does any one have A picture of the mirror mounting area both outside and inside part of the door of a 2002 up Econoline Van. This might give me a better idea of what im doing before I start drilling my 1995 Econoline van to fit these mirrors for a 2002 up
Re: Drilling holes to fit 2003 E series mirrors on a 1995 E-350
Hi Rob, I did the mirror swap on my O2 E350, I used a uni-bit stepped drill bit, kept opening the holes and test fitting until It was almost snug, maybe a 1/16" off the door. If you look at the bottom of the stud mounts, they are stepped on an angle, the diameter gets larger as it gets closer to the mirror base. I got the impression that the factory wanted a forced fit into holes in the door to eliminate the chance for vibration, so I kept opening the holes until mirror base was just shy of seated ( about 1/16") and then I pulled the mirror into the sheet metal using the mounting studs. There is allot of "feeling" going on there as far as the diameter of the holes and foot pounds of torque I put on the studs, you just cant crank on it, had to finesse it till it felt solid, seated and tight. It took probably an hour of final fitting. I went to my local ACE hardware and bought longer studs to replace the ones on the mirror from the factory. I'm guessing the doors are different on the vans those mirrors came on. You'll see that once you get started. I think I only used one factory stud and the others I replaced with longer studs, and washers. Just take you time. I do remember one of my holes hit an internal brace. I did not have to dent or hammer on beat on anything, if that helps. Bill

I hole sawed out that internal brace. PIA! I tried & couldn't get my studs out. Did not want to over force anything & brake it. I used big recessed washers & tighten down nuts. Wiggle mirror & tighten alittle at a time.
