E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

I was at a dealer the other day getting parts and asked them what they thought they were gonna do with the van and the 6L and they told me that the other day he had an E-550 with a 6L in it. I'm not sure if it was the cutaway, or if they only make the 550's in cutaways or whatever. But from what i saw on Fords website the E-550 was the same front end as all the other vans that exist now and the 6L fit in there. Maybe there wont be any changes for the new engine and if there are maybe they aren't going to change the outside look. I just looked on the ford site and couldn't find any pictures of 550's but they have 450's on there. I wonder where the 550's are.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

The E550 come in a cutaway and is an awesome looking rig. It has the 19.5 wheels and a straight fron axle. The whole thing sits a lot higher and has extended fenders on the front and an extended massive front bumper. If they had one of those in 96 I would have had to get one instead of the E350. Then I wouldn't have had to change up my springs and change my brakes every year.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

The place I bought my ambulance from upgraded there rigs to the E450. They sit a lot higher than the 350. In fact they now only have about 2" clearance on there bay doors. Definetly the way to go for the GVWR. The GVWR on the 350 I have from them is 11,000 and the rig weighs 10,020 with just me in it.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

The E-550 has been killed and it never had the 6.0, only the non-intercooled 7.3.

Ahh, man! I thought the E550 was so cool! Are you sure they stopped making them? I know they didn't come with the new motor, but I thought that thing was absolutly perfect for motorhomes and box vans.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

There's two of them at my local dealership right now with 19.5s they were parked around the corner of the building all I could see was high cube van body and the 19.5's on both units till I went around to take a look at em they were Vans shiny and new with 550 on them was in a hurry so I didn't get to observe more than that.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

Well dang, go back and check out the engine. I didn't think they stoped making the E-550 but couldn't find it on the ford site and couldn't find any eyewitnesses.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

yARIC008.....yes I am sure, the 6l is not in the E150, E350, E450 or the discontinued E550. Look on the Ford or Ford Fleet sites. It will not fit without major physical changes to the vehicle.

The open question is when it will be included, there are three opinions floating around:
1) it will never be put in the E because the E will be killed and not replaced. I doupt this one.
2) it will not be in the E until the E has a redesign. Then there are opinions on when that redesign is...some say a year after the superduty which might be in 2006 so 2007.
3) the E will have some changes to fit the 6l in 2005.

Opinions on top of opinions is all there is. The only FACT is that the 6l is not available in the E and the E-550 has been discontinued.

I would think Ford would want to kill the 7.3 in the E since it is the only product line using that engine now.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

I'll add another rumor:

The local Ford salesman I've been dealing with supposedly called a Ford engineer buddy who said that the 6.0L will come out in the E-350 this coming January. I've also been talking to a conversion van company rep who supposedly confirmed that general timeframe through his inside channels.

As with all rumors, YMMV.

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

I liked the new E550 I wounder why they discontinued it.It can't be because of the engine they can put the 7.3 in it.It sat high and was a very nice truck for some one who wants to get into a bigger but not hugh truck. Also why would they bring it out for really only a year ,Kinda dumb if you ask me?They must be working on a truck to compeat with the chevies now .

Re: E-550 6.0L Powerstroke

The E-550 was a lot more expensive then the E-450 and no one ordered them. I also think the new F650 ended up to be close in price

Are we sure that they just didn't limit the production of these trucks, i went to a dealer today to look at trucks and saw a couple there. They were all 7.3L but yeah.. i asked a sales man if they still make them and he said they had just gotten those 3 in. so... that's weird.
